Thats my only issue with canon. Nikon wins in the lens department but canon just has nicer cameras. Canon has alot better prices on their shit.

Check amazon. I think they are going for around 650 there with the kit lens. They also have really nice packages with additional lenses/equipment for cheap.

Bro get an XTI. You comparing the D40 the XSI is stupid anyway since the XSI is compared to the D90. Save yourself some money and grab the XTI since canon never does any drastic upgrades with their bodies like nikon does. Nikon>Canon always.

idk..google that shit. The only specs i know about canon is that the XTI has a bigger screen than the XT but are pretty much the exact same camera...

the XS and the XTI are virtually the same camera i think, priced very similar too. So if you are not going to get the XSI, go wtih the XS.
I thought the 50D was compared to the D90? the XSI is more comparable to the D60

I looked up the specs and the only real differences is 2.2 more megapixes and a .5 larger screen

Cosign. The XS I hear is just like an XTI but with a little more enhancements and features.

after reading everyones opinions on the internetz, I suggest you go to a store and try to handle both of the cameras personally. How comfortable a camera feels in your hands can make a huge difference in your choice. Personally, while the rebel series is larger than the the d40/60 series, the d40 feels better when I'm actually holding it, my rebel only felt comfortable when I had the grip on it.

d40 is pretty old now, so you should be able to get one for cheap, but the xsi probably has couple more features that may interest you.

get a d90, the d40 is still a great camera, but way old. xsi caters to soccer moms with that live view shit. i'd say get a nikon, but it's your preference.
