a lot of people are going to tell you to get a digital SLR for the money you are gona spend. anyway, these cameras seem very similar so i would just go to the store and play wtih them and see which one feels better etc.

I'd have to agree for that price you might as well just get a dslr, but if you don't want to then I'd fuck around with something way cheaper than that. unless you want an ultra fancy p&s then i'd say just feel em out.

yo ive been lookin at this shit for a while.
from what ive read g9 is better unless you want a wider lens. g9 is better at higher iso's and generally gives better quality apparently
www.kenrockwell.com/canon/g10.htm#g9

also been lookin at leica d-lux 4 / panasonic lx3 for the hd video. and for that price ive considered a canon 450d(XSi), but i cant even decide what i want myself.

The G9 has better reach though. If you want a wider angle you can always the the wider angle for the G9. The G10 doesn't even have timelapse feature that the G9 has. If you even check out amazon the G10 is cheaper than the G9.

I don't have too much info/experience with the LX-3 or the p6000.

But I can tell you that I am happy as hell that I invested my money in the G9

don't be scared to jump into a dslr. i recommend using that $400 you're gonna waste on those point and shoots and cop a d40 or a xti. you're gonna regret getting a g10 or p6000 when you switch over to a dslr.

SLR's arent for everyone, some people just want good image quality in a compact camera that they can learn a thing or two on. Just nkow that if you get a smaller camera and you are serious about photography you will more than likely outgrow this camera fast and want to move up to a D-SLR.

Yea well if an slr isn't your thing then a G9/10 is great.

-Hotshoe
-Manual Modes
-Creative Modes
-Shoot @ F/2.8
-Fast ISO control
-Video
-Shoots RAW
-Alot of after market acessories

If you go to: Photography-on-the.net/forum
You'll see that there are alot of DSLR users who have Powershot G series cameras. And they all love them. Aside from some of the drawbacks that some G users have and I have experienced myself. Its nice to not have to lug around an SLR all the time. I usually use mine for backup or just when I dont feel like bringing around my SLR. But I say go for it.

u should consider either the Leica Dlux 4 or the Lumix LX3.
DPreview rated LX3 better than Canon G10... Both in looks and performance.
Flickr LX3 and be amazed by what this small compact monster can do for you.>sad
