The D50 is widely regarded as the low noise/high ISO king of Nikon dSLR's. Since there's less light typically indoors it'd good to be able to boost the ISO and that's where the D50 shines. So in terms of indoor photography, you're definitely not gaining much if anything going to the D80, and possibly even a slight step down as far as indoor/low light performance noise-wise.

The D80 will have a few more features and more convenient options.

What are some good reasonably cheap film cameras? I want to do this little project for myself, and want something cheap and compact. Thinking about getting a Smena 8m cam. shop.lomography.com/smena/

How am i supposed to pan when my shutter feature is fucked up. i put shutter to 1 second and its exposure is bright as hell. and thats the lowest level.

I'm looking to buy a wide angle for my d50. I was wondering if a 17-35mm or a 18-35mm would be better. If not one of those does anyone have some suggestions for me?

Are we talking the 17-35 2.8 vs the 18-35 3.5/4.5 (nikkors) or some sort of 3rd party lenses?

If so you might want to check the prices on these because the 17-35 is like $1000 MORE than the 18-35.

Also, on a 1.5x crop camera I wouldn't consider either of these wide lenses. They are the equivalent of like 27mm in film world.

There is a Nikkor 12-24 out there if you want to go really wide...

Thanks yeah i went to my local camera shop today and i looked at both of the lenses i was asking about and they weren't as wide as i was hoping. I will check out the one you suggested though.

For real fisheye.. get the Canon 15mm Fish (PICS, EBAY). For fisheye on the cheap.. get the Peleng (PICS, EBAY). For SWA and everyday use, get the 10-22mm (PICS, EBAY).

Look at either a nikon d40, a d50, canon rebel. Those are some of the best beginner dslr's out.

So the new school year is coming up, and i have decided to change my accounting course to photography. In grade 10, I chose art as a prerequisite to take photography in 11, but then decided to not take it and take the bird course instead. I now decided to go back and take it. How did everyone else start getting into photography? I was actually more inspired by the many pictures I have seen on hypebeast. Any tips on what types of shots I should be focusing on or anything?

I don't know what he meant by compatible, but if he meant "lens that will autofocus" this one won't on a D40.

That said, who cares. Fisheye lenses = crazy DOF so not a big deal.

However, if you absolutely want a lens that will autofocus on the D40 I think Sigma makes a 10-20 or 10-22 or something that has HSM.

I thought all you needed was an AF lens because the D40 doesn't have a built in AF motor in the body. I don't know about Nikons. School me.

The 10.5 is the lens my friend has on his D70..
