17-50 for sure man. good general fast lens, what more can ya ask for.

but, if you really can just blow the cash and have a good use for the sigma, go for it. though i'd assume you'd get more use out of the tamron.

I was in the same dilemma and had some time to use the sigma. Wide angle is kind of over rated, especially the sigma which is kind of soft. Get the 17-50.........i was planning on getting one this week when i got my tax return money but it turns out I actually Owe taxes. suprised

in all my d40 pics, the blacks look brown and the navys and blues look purple recently, pretty sure I didnt mess with the settings or anything, any ideas on how to fix?

Anyone in NYC interested in buying a Mamiya 645E with winder? I've had it for a couple of months and kept it in pristine condition, only shot 8 rolls of film with it. I love the camera, but it's so annoying to use as a glasses-wearer that I've decided to sell it and replace it with something else. I purchased it used from Adorama, in E+ condition. That looks like a 35mm (probably on a crop body). For the aperture, I don't know if it's a 1.4 or 1.8, but you'd get shallow enough DOF to get the bokeh in the background with either.

For group pics, I guess it depends on how you're standing as a group. The general idea is you don't want to use a large aperture that would give you a thin DOF resulting in people in the back or front being out of focus. Generally, if you're shooting a group shot, unless its in low light conditions, you'd probably rather go with a smaller aperture (F4 and upconfused depending on the size of your group. Really though, if you're shooting a group shot you probably need to consider more than just the aperture. Also, the settings you're using is dictated by the lens you're using, mostly.

Tiffen filters are cheap, I bought two for 20 bucks. A UV and haze filter, then again only reason I got it was for the effects on the lens, not for protection. razz

Go to your local camera shop to pick it them up, I don't think copping it online is worth it cause of the S&H

Yup if your lens falls (which it might if you use your camera a lot) it is good just to have for protective purposes.

Overall it doesn't do much for image quality.

The used ones at BH or Adorama are as cheap as you can get.
