50mm won't AF on the d40

I won't be using autofocus on my d40smile I like manual focusing, more fun, but What do you/and him mean by 50mm? my d40 came with a 18-55mm lens.
Also last question but can I use lenses from different companies? like sigma lense+my d40?

oh my fucking god. why are all the prices going up on everything? a month or two ago the SB-600 was 165 new on amazon. Now its 200...

Is the SB-600 made in Japan? Lots of Japanese exports are going up in price. I'm a Canon user so I saw a new price list for price increases, anywhere from 5-10%.

I've been planning to get a compact for a while.

And it just so happens the Ricoh RX-1 is coming out next month. I've never owned a Ricoh though, so was wondering if anyone has any firsthand impressions/advice on the brand?

Reading about the CMOS sensor seems to be a bit of a hit and miss. Most reviews are claiming it makes the camera cheaper and more power efficient, but also makes shots more susceptible to noise. However the functionality such as the multiple exposures and varied white balance seem too good to pass on for a compact.

Also, does anyone know if the current lenses Ricoh has available will be compatible with the RX-1? In other words, are their lenses compatible across all their cameras?

Isn't it the CX1?

I have a GX100 and I really like it. Form factor is really good. The noise isn't the best, not leaps and bounds worse than the competitors but still not the leader of the pack.

GX series has multiple exposures/white balance (one or the other), but I usually shoot in RAW anyways.

I'm not sure if the CX-1 supports an adapter tube for other lenses. The GX series supports telephoto/wide-angle (both from Ricoh) as well as screw-in lenses assuming the thread is the same (adapter rings work as well). I was able to outfit my GX with a Lomo fisheye for cheap.

Oops yeah I did mean the CX-1. Slipped my mind.

Thanks for the advice Eugene, it's been hard enough to find people that even know that Ricoh makes cameras :x

It's pretty amazing the lomo fisheye fits on the GX. I'll definitely look that up!

im thinking im gonna get it just cus if i buy the body the only lens i was gonna have was the 50 f/1.8 which would cause alot of restriction.

ive never seen anything on the 28-135 is it any good?

Not all are with the Lomo fisheye... personally I would set my custom setting to have the zoom extended to have only the mechanical vignetting on the corners rather than a circle.

can someone school me on aspherical lenses?

i heard they take sharper pics than regular spherical lenses, but what are the downsides?

is there an ideal time to use one? (if any)

thanks.

camera bag question... can someone please recommend a camera bag for my slr. ive been looking around and dont really like the ones in the camera stores. i find them to be too "hiker-ish". i dont need a very big bag, something that could fit the slr body, 2 or 3 lens's and a flash. big thanks

Most should, some may need some special adapters I believe. Some functions might be impaired as well I think?

Yeah, it depends on the brand. For example, all Nikon lenses will fit on all Nikon cameras, but depending on the camera and lens they might not function together properly.

selling my D60... i'm looking to upgrade to either a D80 or D200. i like that the d200 has a metal body and nice auto bracketing, but is it worth the extra money? what should i do HB?

The D80 and D200 are both obsolete. If you are really looking to upgrade just get a D90 or D300.

Regarding whether or not it's worth it: If you really beat your cameras then it's nice to have a metal body, but if it's at the point where the plastic isn't holding up you should really learn how to take care of your cameras. And auto-bracketing is really not worth the moeny in my opinion, it's easy enough to take 3 photos with different exposures. Auto-bracketing just saves you a few seconds.
