G9 or G10? About the same price...

Are they about the same price?
I thought G9 would drop cause of the 10.
But if they are, would it not be the obvious choice of going for the newer one? So go G10?....its specs. actually seem pretty damn good.

True, but why get the G9 over the G10 if they're the same price? The G10 is a newer, improved version of the G9. It just makes sense to buy the better product. If the G9 is cheaper I say go for that, because from what I've gathered the G9 and G10 are identical, except for the fact that the G10 has an exposure compensation knob, a few more megapixels (which don't matter, sorry), and a slightly wider 5x zoom lens as opposed to a 6x zoom lens.

ok so am trying to buy a camera. the photo department in my job has one that they say is a model from last year and it on discount plus i could use my 10% off towards its a canon eos digital rebel xti i would end up payin $440 for it. is this a good deal or should i keep looking

35mm won't be wide on your crop..it would be like 50mm

look into a 24mm 1.4 or 1.8 which would give you like a 35mm field of view

Even 24 isn't particularly wide on 1.6x cameras like the Rebel or D40. What camera do you have? You could go for a lens around the 10-20mm range.

If you're going to save up for a wide angle or fish, go with the Nikon 10.5 mm.

Hands down, the best.

It will not focus on your d40. However, it is fairly easy to tape the auto focus ring in a position where it will be in focus most of the time.

I was thinking about getting a fisheye but i would rather get one after i get a normal wide angle since the fisheye sorta constricts your photos

It's not the 'best'. It's a good camera, though. The Nikon D40 would also be a good choice.

HELP! looking into photography
Hey, I'm looking into amateur photography. I am going on a trip to the Philippines for Christmas and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I was actually looking into the new Nikon D90, but since the recession, i don't know if i can just throw down a g for a hobby besides collecting shoes. hahaha, but anyways. i was looking into anything over the Nikon D60.

Get a Nikon D40 or any of the Canon Rebels. The D90 is an incredible camera, but I wouldn't suggest starting out on it.

Debating what lens to go for...
I'm really interested in doing portraits, so my first thought was to get the Canon 50mm f/1.4.... but then wih the crop sensor (I have a Canon 50D BTW) will make it to a 85mm soo i started looking into the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 that will shoot a 48mm cause of my crop sensor.

Really need those guys out there that shoot alot to give me their 2cents about which lens I should get!

Yea. Getting a D90 would be pointless since you wouldnt know how to use half of the bells and whistles. D40 is perfect for starting out

how would that saved a lot of money? if it cost like $500 for a d40 and say you going to upgrade to a d90 later on ,which cost $1300 lens included. that basically mean you'll be spending at least $1800( only if you going to upgrade)
my point is if you planning to upgraded i would go big if you can effort it. but if you not sure if you will love photography then go with the d40.
