the number of shots or years don't really matter. as long as it's well cared for. If you are buying from a professional, I'd avoid it, as they will most likely put the most wear you can ever imagine on a lens. You should inspect it in person if possible. The price is about the average price you'd find a really good copy lying around for.

Keep in mind that the lens in question is the first version of the 24-70L.

Personally I would opt out for the 24-70. I had it for a couple of days and the lens of very perdy. But if it helps your decision a well cared for lens should last for about 10 years. Maybe longer. Otherwise if it hasn't been well cared for then you will see that it wont last as long.

Hah, got exactly what you got plus a 70-300, which I'm planning on selling. Now my question is, I do mostly video, looking at either the Rode Video Mic or another prime lens. What do you guys recommend?

an amazing lens regardless of the cheap price tag.

its ultra fast to focus
it's sharp as fuck even at f/1.8
it's really awesome in low light

only downside i would say is the construction/ all plastic and the copy i got, the focus ring busted within a month.

kurrupt, I would buy a flash or upgrade a lens to maybe the 50 1.4. What other lens would you get? If you like primes more, you can get a 35 f/2 or 85 1.8 and skip the flash for now unless you need it.

Ajax19, what camera do you have? Buy a rode video mic if you want straight from camera sound as compared to external synced sound in the video. If you don't have a good prime, I would go for that first.

I have a T3i. And yea I have a the 50mm 1.8, really like it so I am considering going with a wider angle prime. Any somewhat affordable recommendations?

^ How wide exactly? A 35 f/2 will be an effective 50mm on your camera. A 28 will be 35 due to your 1.6 crop sensor.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens

Whoever got this lens, how do you like it?

it's one of my 3 lenses (all nikkors: 50mm1.4D, 18-200Vr, 35mm1.8G) for my d300s and honestly i find it pretty average. i wanted a shorter lense than the 50 to have a standard view on a Dx format and didn't have the $ for the sigma 30mm1.4 so took this one.
i find it very slow to focus and not very accurate. sharpness is ok but the 50mm1.4D is so scary sharp that i'm probably too spoiled to enjoy the sharpness of the 35. in the end it's the lense i use the less.

I found a really good deal on a Nikon D80 with a Nikon 50F1.8D and 85F1.8D for a reasonable price. He is the first owner and camera is in mint condition. All he had to do was have the camera recalibrated and installed a new shutter assembly all done by Nikon. Main reason why I'm looking into buying this package is because of the lenses.

I'll be upgrading to the D300s around November or December and my plan is to keep the 50F1.8D and 85F1.8D and sell the D80 to fund a new lens. Would this be a good buy?

50mm 1.8D - 75
85mm 1.8D - 350
Nikon D80 - 400

none of them are exceptionally hot items so they're not gonna be easy to sell. I'd just save the money and get the D300s. the 50mm and 85mm are both ok lenses but not great.

Well I didn't end up getting the camera because he sold it earlier this morning. However, I did end up just getting a Panasonic Lumix G2 and I'll be using my Minolta MD 50F1.7 and 135F3.5 on it. This is pretty much going to be my everyday camera for street photography. I got a pretty good deal on it being that it's brand new. It should suite my shooting needs for awhile until I save up enough for a D300s or D7000.

Anyone have experience with adapting other lenses to different camera bodies?

That's a really common problem, you shoot canon right?

Do the upgrade, the 1.4 can be sniped on craigslist for $300 or you can order a Canon refurbished lens for $320~340. it's 3x the price of a 1.8, but infinitely better. Construction is solid and reliable, and the lens is pretty sharp wide open. However the build is a rather old design, you can play the Sigma lottery and try to get a good reliable copy of the Sigma 50 1.4. It is sharper from 1.4-2.5, but most are lemons and have horrible back/front focus issues. Getting an accurate copy of those and the pictures are identical to the Canon L series.
