35mm 1.8, runs you about 200$.

Looking for a zoom lens cause all I have is the 18-55 and 50mm lens.
What's the best one for $300 or less.
Trying to get enough zoom for my nephew's football games.

This is with 50mm cropped.

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens - $115

Is this any good? There's no IS and I can probably use a tripod.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom - $140

Giving up 50mm for IS?

I'd stay away from budget telephoto zoom lenses. you'd be happier if you saved for either the 85 f/1.8 or 70-200L f/4. you can get the 85 for 350 or less and the 70-200L f/4 for $500

The 70-200L f/4 is a really good deal if your doing sports. Your shooting at such a high shutter speed that you would not use IS.

^ exactly. Also I doubt that peewee/midget league games seldom happen at night, so the lighting will be excellent, most times.

Couuld someone reccomend me a decent but not overly expencive medium format film camera. Prefferably one that makes 6 x 6 or over negs.
September 18, 2011 @ 13:06:40
I'm looking for a small "fun" camera to use as a side hobby. It has to be small enough to carry around my neck like I'm trying to make a fashion statement. Nothing bulky like most of the d-slrs people have.

After a quick google search, I'm thinking about getting the Sony Alpha NEX-3 or NEX-5. The only reason I'm considering the NEX-5 is the magnesium alloy construction vs the NEX-3 plastic construction. Is it worth spending a little extra money for a more rugged camera?

should i cop a canon 28-70mm for 700? thing is. it's been used for 4 years. got to believe there's some wear there.
September 21, 2011 @ 04:14:32
the number of shots or years don't really matter. as long as it's well cared for. If you are buying from a professional, I'd avoid it, as they will most likely put the most wear you can ever imagine on a lens. You should inspect it in person if possible. The price is about the average price you'd find a really good copy lying around for.

Keep in mind that the lens in question is the first version of the 24-70L.

Personally I would opt out for the 24-70. I had it for a couple of days and the lens of very perdy. But if it helps your decision a well cared for lens should last for about 10 years. Maybe longer. Otherwise if it hasn't been well cared for then you will see that it wont last as long.

Hah, got exactly what you got plus a 70-300, which I'm planning on selling. Now my question is, I do mostly video, looking at either the Rode Video Mic or another prime lens. What do you guys recommend?
September 22, 2011 @ 15:23:03
^ i sold the 70-300 and copped the 50mm haha

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens

Whoever got this lens, how do you like it?
September 24, 2011 @ 02:59:27
an amazing lens regardless of the cheap price tag.

its ultra fast to focus
it's sharp as fuck even at f/1.8
it's really awesome in low light

only downside i would say is the construction/ all plastic and the copy i got, the focus ring busted within a month.
September 24, 2011 @ 22:09:54
can anyone recommend any instant film cameras? i'm looking to get one just to fuck around at outings and whatnot.

looking at these two right now:

Thanks! Did you buy another one when the focus ring broke?
September 25, 2011 @ 02:27:20
Nah man I actually ended up just selling all my Nikon shit, and switched to a 7d
September 25, 2011 @ 13:28:33
kurrupt, I would buy a flash or upgrade a lens to maybe the 50 1.4. What other lens would you get? If you like primes more, you can get a 35 f/2 or 85 1.8 and skip the flash for now unless you need it.

Ajax19, what camera do you have? Buy a rode video mic if you want straight from camera sound as compared to external synced sound in the video. If you don't have a good prime, I would go for that first.
September 25, 2011 @ 13:52:02
Does anyone have a flash for sale? The pop up one on my T1i just isnt cutting it anymore

take pictures and shit

I have a T3i. And yea I have a the 50mm 1.8, really like it so I am considering going with a wider angle prime. Any somewhat affordable recommendations?
September 25, 2011 @ 23:08:06
^ How wide exactly? A 35 f/2 will be an effective 50mm on your camera. A 28 will be 35 due to your 1.6 crop sensor.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens

it's one of my 3 lenses (all nikkors: 50mm1.4D, 18-200Vr, 35mm1.8G) for my d300s and honestly i find it pretty average. i wanted a shorter lense than the 50 to have a standard view on a Dx format and didn't have the $ for the sigma 30mm1.4 so took this one.
i find it very slow to focus and not very accurate. sharpness is ok but the 50mm1.4D is so scary sharp that i'm probably too spoiled to enjoy the sharpness of the 35. in the end it's the lense i use the less.

as of now, i think those two are the best on the market for instant film. just pay attention to which one you get. The 300 creates business size photos while the 210 creates a wide format photo.

Selling advice
I'm trying to sell an Olympus DSLR but I don't wanna take the ebay seller hit and my town isn't really great for Craigslisting that type of stuff. I posted in the Marketplace forum on HB, but do yall have any other suggestions for where I could sell it?

Thanks for your help

I really want to get back into shooting, so I've been in the market for looking for reasonable priced cameras I could use for now.

I found a really good deal on a Nikon D80 with a Nikon 50F1.8D and 85F1.8D for a reasonable price. He is the first owner and camera is in mint condition. All he had to do was have the camera recalibrated and installed a new shutter assembly all done by Nikon. Main reason why I'm looking into buying this package is because of the lenses.

I'll be upgrading to the D300s around November or December and my plan is to keep the 50F1.8D and 85F1.8D and sell the D80 to fund a new lens. Would this be a good buy?

depends on the price of this really good deal.

50mm 1.8D - 75
85mm 1.8D - 350
Nikon D80 - 400

none of them are exceptionally hot items so they're not gonna be easy to sell. I'd just save the money and get the D300s. the 50mm and 85mm are both ok lenses but not great.
