I'd get the 24-70 for all rounder, but thats just me. Try em out in a camera store near you before purchasing,or rent the lenses and try em out for like a few days.

thanks, I am thinking I will wind up going with the 24-70. 35 was just a thought as I am trying to keep my horizons open on what I want, and what I will be happy with. I don't know if I can try it out though anywhere unless anyone knows a place on LI that has a camera shop that you are allowed to try lenses.

Wassup fellas. So I kinda want to start taking photography more seriously and what do you guys think would be essential in my camera "bag."

Shooting a D40 with a 18-55 and a 28-105. I was thinking a 35mm f1.8

Also have a sb600

35 1.8 is a good choice. I'm not much of a prime guy, but it's extremely worth it's value.

Ok, 24-70 2.8L, or 35mm 1.4L?

I was going to get the zoom lens, but I am thinking the prime will be better and since I am using a crop frame (not full), it will be equivalent to 57mm which isn't bad. I will also be switching to a FF body hopefully when the Mark III comes out. Or is there another lens I should be looking at?

yeah, i'd say 35L if you were using full-frame for sure. i have the 24-70L, and it's great (even though i use my primes over it mostly
August 09, 2011 @ 21:31:20
How many are you using Manual Lenses on your cameras? I recently picked up an Minolta 135F3.5, but I'm not to sure on what adapter to get for my Sony?

Kodak Ektacolor 100 or Fuji Provia 400 if you want something faster to shoot in lower light.

Do you want a walkaround lens or do you have specific shooting you wanna do?
August 17, 2011 @ 23:30:22
Oh my god, seriously.. There are so many lenses/ variations/ types of lenses out there, gotta be specific. Do you know what you are mainly shooting? Do you want to have a zoom lens or can you use a prime? Do you need a lens that can handle lowlight well? Etc.. etc.. First I would look around on sites for reviews of different lenses, narrow down your selection then post here what you think you want and then I am sure you will have a ton of people helping you.

I had a shoot with a friend of mine earlier because she wants to make some prints for some car show she's going to be at on Sunday. When I take pictures, I usually resize my images to 900x599, but she told me she wants to make some prints but not sure on what size, so I'm debating if I still resize them?

My question is: If I resize it to 900x599, will it decrease picture quality if she makes some prints? Should I just leave them original size and just edit them from there?
August 19, 2011 @ 13:25:29
900x599 is already REALLY low quality for prints (even at 300dpi)— it's around 3"x1".

ask her what size she wants, then resize accordingly in photoshop at 300dpi for prints.
August 19, 2011 @ 19:12:16
I just left them at full size and edited them from there and just gave it to her. It's up to her on how shes going to print them. Reason why I do 900x599 is for my blog, so its all the same length and width.
August 20, 2011 @ 11:02:07
What/ where to buy film for minolta pocket autopak?
The film place is extra tiny. http://t.co/MTq6uZu

yeah, good idea. because if you gave them to her resized (at that size), that would be a bad idea.

Hey,

close to getting a NEX-C3, anyone got this cam, or have any inputs on it?
I'm pretty novice, but have decided to enter the world of photography..

Thanks!

Picture quality is pretty good. And it's cool how you can use old MF lenses with adapters. Thing you might have a hard time with it are adjusting the settings. You would always need to go into the menu settings to change like Iso, shutter speed, aperture, etc etc. What about Panasonic GF3 or Olympus E-PL3?

It looks beautiful that's for sure. I've made up my mind, and will be picking on up.

Got a question though how important are filters?
August 22, 2011 @ 18:17:18
I've been a dedicated Sony shooter for awhile now. I came across a deal for a Nikon D90 and in a way it benefits me since my cousins and friends are Nikon shooters too. Right now, I have a Sony A560 with a couple of lenses, but Im thinking of selling it and switching over to Nikon. Would that be a downgrade? Originally, I was saving up for a D7000, but the D90 offer is something I wouldn't want to pass up. What do you guys think? Stay with the Sony and save up for the D7000 or switch to the D90?
