Increase ISO and decrease aperture your lens will allow.

Is anyone in here working with the d3100? I've been researching the cheapest dslrs w/ video recording & it seems to be the one that best fits what I'm looking for. I was curious as to what some of you guys experience have been with it.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to stay within the Nikon family I wouldn't recommend that 3100. I would look into the 5100 that release not to recently. Or also look into the Nikon D90.

^ you must not watch DigitalRev TV very often then. Kai would toss Lok under a car to save his Leica from being ran over, he's that obsessed with viewfinders. The youtube series is more for comedy and to see what new product were released then anything else.

He's also a Nikon fanboy who tries to hide it by giving anything canon an over the top review FYI. cheers and happy watching.

For HD video I would go with class 10 hands down.

I recently picked up lights for my shoot later. I picked up 2 1000w lights with stand and 1 500w. I got them from Home Depot. Heres the original idea, www.shuttertalk.com/articles/diylighting

I don't have the correct bulbs, so it'll give me the tungesten color, but I think I can change that by changing the WB.

I'll be shooting the lights on the stand through a white bed sheet to achieve the "soft light", but I was wondering if I should use a fill flash?

I just bought a nifty fifty and was looking into buying a lens hood and filter, are filters worth it? I don't know what to get with all the choices. I was looking to buy this lens hood: www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Dedicated-Lens-Canon-ES-62/dp/B002K3Z3E8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1310980326&sr=8-3

Can someone suggest a filter or another lens hood if you have a better one?
I'm just wondering if i should even buy a filter or not, especially with only a 50mm lens.

any lens hood will suffice.
filter wise, the 50 most likely has a concave element which is not subject to finger prints most likely..
but if youd like to pick up a UV filter for more protection, do not skimp out. (check B+W etc)

I'm not sure about off-camera flashing, but I know that using one on-camera can fry the CPU contacts on the body. Depending on what type of trigger you're using, it might be possible?

What do you guys think of the canon 28 2.8 or maybe the sigma 28 1.8? I want a wide angle lens to complement my canon 50 1.8 on my t2i but are they worth it or are there better options?

i'd rate the E-P3 over the current GF2/3, but not a fan of that touch screen.

imo, cop a cheap GF1, and use the extra money on some dope used leica/voigtlander/zeiss lens and converters

from dpreview:

Here's a brief summary of the major changes between the GF2 and GF1:

Smaller and lighter body

LCD screen now touch-sensitive, with added anti-reflective coating

Fewer external controls (mode dial, drive mode lever, AEL and DOF preview buttons removed)

Completely revamped, fully-customizable Quick Menu designed for touchscreen operation

Built-in stereo microphone

1080i 60fps full HD video (from 25p sensor output)

Continuous shooting at 2.6fps with Live View

Increased maximum sensitivity (ISO 6400)

iAuto button on top plate

Variable 'Defocus Control' in iAuto and 'My Color' modes, with live preview

Full support for F-FT012 3D lens

No remote release socket

2nd curtain sync and flash exposure compensation no longer available

New smaller DMW-BLD10 battery with slightly lower capacity (7.3Wh vs 9 Wh)
basically a smaller, lighter body (doesn't feel as solid), better video and iso, lesser battery capacity and alot of touch screen...

not true.
www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Class-Memory-SDSDRH-016G-A11/dp/B0012W7HQK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1311484950&sr=1-1

i use those cards above (SanDisk 16Gb Class 4 15.0 Mb/s) to do all my video recording, and I have NEVER run into write problems writing in full 1080p at 24/30 frames, and 720p with 60 frames. Granted if you are using a RED, then these cards probably cant write 4k res at the speeds you need it to, but then again if you are using a RED the cost of an sd card whouldnt really be an issue to you. If it makes you feel better go for the class 10's, otherwise, i HIGHLY recommend the ones in that link.
