how would i achieve something liek tthis?

take a picture of a dude who looks like that so that the sun hits his face on the right, make sure his head is in front of the sky (so you can cut it out easier in photoshop).
for the background, take a picture of seattle from a boat, make sure its during midday, decrease the saturation and luminance of reds.

cut out the face, layer it on top of the background in photoshop, and then apply HDR effects until it looks like that image.

^I would also say take 2 seperate pictures, one focused on the backround, and the other focused on him. Then cut and paste the two focused pictures together. Both approaches seem like they would work in theory lol.

But, how do I double expose like this?

See how the face is like a silhouette of the backround? Do I take a picture of the backround first or the person?

some cameras (i know pentax's for sure), allow you to do this in camera. why you would want to do it, I have no idea, but for some reason it's a feature that they keep in their cameras. Yyu may just be able to get tricky with photoshop by messing around with blending options & masking layers.

Oh nah I know HOW to do it in my camera lol, it's just that I don't know how to do that specific technique. So i'm guess im asking, what picture would I take first to achieve the double exposure above, the backround or the person?

Ever considered micro 4/3rds?

Otherwise, G12, or S95 would do fine.

I have a d7000 after upgrading/downgrading some may call it from a d300, problem is i dont like the hd video on it and am considering buying a 60d with 18-200 off bh for $1300. My question is how smooth is the 60 fps 720? Or the 30fps 1080?

T2i is what i would get. D3100 or T3 isn't worth it. T2i + Magic Latern is where its at.

good tripod, for more sharp get a smaller aperture like f/11 or more. if you have vr or is turn it off and try to place tripod on soft ground instead of concrete since concrete will vibrate from cars depending on were your shooting. remote shutter release cable and your basically all set.

most bullshit video ever. they neglect the fact that the best pictures aren't always taken on leica's. the dude making the video had a hard time trying to find a reason to justify the fact that the cameras were so expensive, even when they don't have the evil features like autofocus, so he had to delve into some pretentious argument about the nature of a camera. spare yourself forking over a car down payment, and just buy a solid dslr.

you can buy a leica when you're rich and take pictures of impoverished people and call it art.

^ you must not watch DigitalRev TV very often then. Kai would toss Lok under a car to save his Leica from being ran over, he's that obsessed with viewfinders. The youtube series is more for comedy and to see what new product were released then anything else.

He's also a Nikon fanboy who tries to hide it by giving anything canon an over the top review FYI. cheers and happy watching.

Kinda just have my D7000 and kit lens. Wondering if i should get a sigma 17-50 2.8 os, or the tamron equivalent? I want a mid-range zoom lens, i"ll look into uwa later suprised.

Damn I hope I'm not to late on this...get the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. compared to the Tamron it's light years above it. I've been debating between the two for the past month and just purchased the sigma. for the extra money the sigma has better OS, a lot sharper, and has better glass preventing vignetting. If that's not enough there's been a few cases where the AF motor on the Tamron has failed over the past two years.

EDIT: according to the MTF charts the Sigma is sharper then the Canon 17-55mmf2.8 aswell.

Is anyone in here working with the d3100? I've been researching the cheapest dslrs w/ video recording & it seems to be the one that best fits what I'm looking for. I was curious as to what some of you guys experience have been with it.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone here shoot with a Full manual Lens? I plan on picking up a Rokinon 85F1.4. Its pretty much the same as Takumar, Vivitar and other Lenses. Its a full manual lens. Has anyone tried it before?

^ not to sure about the Nikon side, but the canon T3 is garbage.

It's canons stripped down entry level camera that has worst build quality then some of their point and shoot cameras. The video recording i would say is be on par with their P&S line and only because you're able to interchange lenses.

At the very least you should save up for the t2i.

Ask yourself this - is having it right now really worth having to upgrade again a year from now, as opposed to saving up for another month or two and upgrading in two to three years?

don't get the d3100 if you want to be doing video. it's garbage and very limited.
canon codecs are better for editing, more flexibility and you can get cinestyle for free.

get a t2i and magic lantern it.
