I actually scoffed at this reply.

Luck is a only a small factor. Hard work and persistence is what makes some of those heads into what they are today. I can't say exactly how as I wouldn't have the faintest. But I do know locals who've push or are pushing and getting there slowly.

Yes luck might have been a little factor into why KAWS has been pulled from an artist/writer etc into clothing with bape and then the mainstream, but this dude was big for years before that, just on the underground.

All I can say is work hard, be nice to people, never turn a gig down and never give up man. But most of all, love what you do, cause if theres no heart you won't have the drive to make it.

i would have to disagree with the last two comments, luck and connections play in big team...one could push themselves for a lifetime and not reach an ideal level, whereas someon else might half ass it, and get paid / higher recognition

I think we'd have to agree to disagree on that one. You don't get lucky with success.. unless its the lottery. Yes connections play a small part, but if you know people, but work half assed, they'll know you don't work hard. Then the connections wont mean shit, prolly even turn out worse through word of mouth

futura was found as a streetartist by james lavelle of unkle who put him on work as albumcover and graphic designer ( i.e. pointmenz ) and made people curious who handdrawed all that shit.. the start of the carreer of a controversial artistic genius

hard work and talent. but these guy were lucky. they were lucky enough to be born in a time and place where people would respond to their work in the way they did. they were lucky to get in the game before there really was a real blownup streetwear game or graff game. which allowed them to shape so many artist down the line. that's why people go crazy over these guys. they got longevity.

James Lavelle in NO WAY discovered nor put Futura on. Fut was a big name Looong before '98s psyence fiction ever came out. The man went on tour with the clash doing live painting while they played for godsakes!

Here are the keys to making it:
1)Talent
2)Talent
3)Talent
4)Hard work
5)Patience
6)Connections, and knowing how to make and keep them
7)Being humble
