I've saved some money to buy a new lens for my canon T2i.
What lens do you guys recommend for street/urban photography?

50mm 1.8 is a great overall lens for a beginner.

Yup. A 50mm lens is usually perfect but a 30mm will be fine also.

What kind of street photography are you doing? the 50 mm 1.8 is nice cause its cheap but it is very limited. I like the 30mm a lot try looking at the sigma

50mm 1.8 is a great starter lens. Keep in mind the limits of the t2i's sensor. 50mm on a t2i will be roughly 80mm. It would be great for portraits but not so great for landscapes/buildings.

A 50mm is probably going to be way to tight of a frame for street photography especially with a crop sensor. The only advantage to the 50mm is that you can get them for very cheap.

I shoot with a 50mm right now but you're gonna want to get something wider, less than 50mm

if you can afford 350-550 on a lens the 50mm 1.4 is worth the extra cash. my favourite walk around lenses right now are the 50mm 1.4 and the 17-40mm f4 which I find to be perfect, the 17-40 is very affordable and lightweight for an L lens and produces amazing images, you can usually find them second hand for 450-600.
