magcloud landscape template .psd (with bleed lines)

June 17, 2012 @ 05:55:48
I like the dimensions. I reckon it's a nice and handy format and keeping the price low is also not a bad thing of course. And thanks for the template BK.

What does everyone else say? Different opinions?
What about the name, cover (probably too early for that) and layout of sections such as table of contents? Do you want to decide on all that in the second process / after everyone has submitted their content? Might not hurt to narrow things down.

I am definitely not a designer but willing to help with basic tasks or give things a go.
June 17, 2012 @ 07:06:05
Yeah I was wondering if we were gonna do page numbers, but that can only be done by one person smh

I was thinking everyone could use the template and put together their stuff on a few pages and send it all to one person too

I can help with all that if need be

So far it's missy, phillip, me and michael interested in doing overall layout I think
June 17, 2012 @ 11:26:53
There's blurb if you guys want to use that too even though it might be on the more expensive side. The price guide is here.
Michael table of contents would be good. We could separate it into photography, writing, and art, and people with stuff in more than one category can have it spread throughout the book. Or we could separate it by name of each person. Like you said we could do that after the work is in to decide how it will be organized. What do you guys think?
June 17, 2012 @ 14:42:37
this is a great idea!

put me down for illustrations and i'd love to help out with layout

http://thoro.cjb.net - my website (will be closed 6/30/12 unless i find a new domain/host lol)

so are we def going with the magcloud dimensions?

also i like the idea of writers working with artists, so that this whole thing will look like an actual magazine and not just a picture book

im def interested in a collabo - so writers, artists, or photographers hit me up!

im assuming this will be strictly digital based distribution, but would be cool if it grows to be something more

lets get it HB
June 18, 2012 @ 09:49:12
Hope you guys actually make this happen.
June 18, 2012 @ 20:34:22
do you guys want landscape or portrait pages?

my template was for landscape
June 19, 2012 @ 00:22:24
I don't mind either of them. Which do you guys favor?
June 19, 2012 @ 03:02:28
Regular zines usually have portrait, but we have a lot of art and photos that might work better with landscape

also at about 30 members with 4 pages each that's 120 pages, which has to be an actual bound book (75 cents more per book)

so it won't look like a zine exactly haha
June 19, 2012 @ 03:19:51
Can people still join this? I'd love to have a couple photos in this but don't want to screw up anything you guys already have going.

June 19, 2012 @ 03:55:44
I prefer the landscape pages but of course would be fine with portrait too. Regarding the MagCloud vs. Blurb issue I don't really care. However, I think it might be good to keep the price as low as possible. I also don't mind if it turns out to be more of a book than a zine. Four pages for everyone is a good amount I think.

it's good, man

we haven't put stuff together yet
June 19, 2012 @ 05:36:04
gosh im stoked for this. i hope it all comes together. im doing my best to write something meaningful
June 19, 2012 @ 23:08:50
Hey is there a deadline for submission or is one being made?
June 19, 2012 @ 23:59:15
June 20, 2012 @ 06:27:57
I'd like to get a deadline for mid august though

i'm not sure if that's too early
June 20, 2012 @ 23:57:59
School starts in mid August for some people. Ughh I hate not having Internet (it's missy incase you didn't know)

I'll try and organize as much as I can without the Internet but I'll be back soon

Keep working guys <3 I'm tryna paint something beautiful. Lol.

alright guys. so i think i should be getting internet back up today or this weekend..

should we move our "due date" to a later time in august or maybe even early/mid september? it'll give us less cramming work and to work on our stuff for an extended time to produce something hard working and beautiful rather than half assed and rushed.

this due date will be for submissions only, not actual zine final date

since there's so much interest and actual feedback i think this would be helpful

(sorry if this seems unorganized, im using my stores computer which i dont think i should be? )

let me know what you guys think. <3

and i will take a look at those websites as soon as my internet returns. thanks so much you guys for your help.

I don't know, but I don't want to keep dragging things out like what happened with the photobook

I feel like we should decide on a date and cut off submissions after that so we can finish the layout and get this printed smokeyface
June 23, 2012 @ 11:48:56
definitely... but i wouldnt let this drag out..

whats an ideal "submissions week" for everyone ?

maybe in july? or mid august?

Yo guys, I've been on Hypebeast for over 7 years with various accounts but I hadn't logged in since high school, this idea here is probably the most exciting thing on the forums to me personally. I really think you're all on to something & I definitely wanna be a part.

For inspiration I think the Madbury Club guys do an amazing job as far as good design & layout. Also, The Keystone Design Union put out what is in my opinion the best collaborative art zine ever. Aside from the graphic design, photography & writing submissions I have committed to I can definitely help with the layout, I've used Adobe InDesign to put together school papers nshit.

Again, really dope idea.

i only saw this now and i want to be a part of it. photos and stuff

so from what i gathered, we need to layout our own pages and submit it by mid august? blushing
June 25, 2012 @ 03:12:53
no, we dont need to layout our own pages... (at least not yet)

first half = people making their art pieces/writings.. no layout design... (date still not tentative)

second half = collaborating (or not) with others to design multiple pages/your own page/others pages. this part is the really nitty gritty "collaboration" part. (date still not tentative).. there's also "set" people who are doing the actual layout making while others will be deciding yes/no if they like it or not

also this was sent to me

Also, I’ve had a lot of experience working in collaborative art projects like this & I’d suggest that you be more of a dictator about dates & make them much sooner than later. And if we really get this thing printed up let everyone know that submissions should be in 300dpi, that’s a high quality print resolution. Lastly, I suggest you consider http://issuu.com the leading digital publishing platform for an online release.

i'm quite angry that i've been without internet to keep updating both the list of people and what we're doing but now i'm back and i'll be bugging everyone/this thread again...

with the photobook, that was definitely a different task.. since this Zine is a variety of different mediums, i think a decently "longer" time is okay (someone's mentioned submitting a sculpture... those take longer than photos and maybe a painting) but i WILL NOT let it drag out into the new year. the latest i expect this to go on til is probably sometime in the fall but definitely not past october...

alrighty. im gonna clean my room then get back to organizing. ughh so sorry again but i'm very happy that you're all interested and that you're doing work..

would having a thread of people just posting their work SO FAR be a bigger push to see if everyones on the same pace? or we could even make a tumblr thats "open for submissions" so we can see where we're all at? or this isnt even necessary at all and i'll just hope you guys are definitely doing work.

(just putting it out there)

hmmm one more thing.. if there was anything you didn't like like collaborating with other people or etc. let me know? i mean, i want this to be all different on every page but again it all depends on everyones style.

if there's anything you want/dont want to see in this, say it. put it out there. ahhhhh and i'm really liking the ISSUU site.. even the ads on the side dont bother me.. AND ITS FREEEEEEE

OK so a thread for submissions I think might be better since its right on here and the fact that everyone can see each others stuff is good too.
Mid august sounds way better to me than mid July does. It gives time for a lot of work to be created by everyone without it being dragged out like bk said.
