Sup fellas,

Shot these over the weekend while helping a friend move around. Empty crib with a few bare "first world essentials" = kind of a dope vibe. Let me know what you guys think!

Used an iPhone 4S and Camera+ for edits. I'm really trying to promote the usage of smartphones as completely good alternatives to digital cameras / further the whole idea that the best camera is the one that goes with you everywhere. I made a tumblr as a mobile photography stream and started off with a few fresh shots.

Again, def would love to hear what you guys think on it all! I know it's a little bit of a controversial topic, but it's exciting to see what pictures phones alone can take these days.

good job for phone pics! the edits are almost flawless (maybe a little too dark/constrasty for the 2nd).
the plastic bag in the foreground in the 2nd is a little disturbing though.

keep on shooting!

im jealous as fuk as your friend.

As for the pictures, first one is alright, nice composition. I love the lines.

2nd one is ruined by the distortion and I don't think anything is in focus in the third, some people dig that stuff though. I see the point you're trying to make but these pictures wont prove them. I hear the iphone 4 has a really good cam but the whole mentality is different shooting with a cam and shooting with a phone.

all I do is sip espressos and listen to AZ -mrelllis.tumblr.com

True.. the distortion is caused by the little mod I had to use.. definitely wish it was cleaner, but it's about the best you can get on a fixed lens on a phone. I'd think the shooting mentality is about the same.. except I love having the iPhone to bring around casually moreso than more expensive gear because it's less obvious and much more practical. I actually prefer the iPhone a lot to a Leica M9, X100, or 5dmk2 because of the fact that it's a bigger challenge to get better pictures and that it's strictly a 'shoot well or be shot' deal. You don't really have room to run in post if that's your thing.. and if you are trying to achieve a certain vibe, then it most likely will inevitably be.

I think as long as you're taking photos, you'll never really have a varying mindset. You might look at things a little differently and be less satisfied with results from a camera that doesn't provide as much cushion, but that can always be changed via whether or not the person behind the camera is willing to improve on interesting subjects.

I think the ideas are there, the tech just has to mature behind it.. and if you stack up each iteration of the iPhone behind one another, there's a huge difference in picture quality/image processing in such a short period of time. Hopefully we'll be able to see some cool lens developments in the coming years that allows you to switch between wide angles and regular without too much distortion.. but for now it's a necessary evil.

Def! Wish I could've had some control under B+W on Camera+, but it seems like a certain combination of effects will only go so far which kind of sucks haha. I can't find any apps that give more editing flexibility and the small screen makes edits more of a gamble. The shots were all kind of spur-of-the-moment, but i'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thanks for the input brother.
