start with canon T2i you won't really notice the dif. between 7D and t2i if you are new to dSLR, and it's a lot cheaper

How about a nice, used Nikon D80? You can probably pick one up for ~$600 and slap on a 50mm 1.8 for another ~$100. That should get you off to a great start.
