Submitting work to blogs?

June 11, 2011 @ 11:11:07
Blogs are the new and best way to get your name out there. But witch blogs should we choose? Who knows about good sites where to submit work?

Kind regards,

Phelim

I've been trying to get my stuff on boooooom for ages. I just submit my pics to random groups on flickr.

what are you trying to distribute? like the sites you would send a movie to are generally different than sites you would send photos to.

I am trying to submit photographs. I have a flickr account but I can't post links just yet. Google my name "phelim hoey flickr" and you will see my latest work. I posted a few on flickr magazine groups but no luck yet. Blogs are the new way to get yourself known so I will try this in the near future. Let me know what you think of my pictures and keep on posting them photography blogs ;)

Not really. To be honest I don't know where to even go to start posting photos on blogs lol. I normally just throw em in a few groups on flickr and hope for the best. I've gotten a few views so I can't complain, it's more than what I had before, zero, haha.

I've pretty just spent my whole day at work trying to work out how to break into the flickr popularverse. I think I learned a few weeks ago that there's a fuckton of work liking, favoriting, reblogging, adding contacts and commenting other peoples work to get you anywhere. Once you've got a base you can pretty much upload jack shit and get people who like it.

Adding photos to multiple groups on flickr actually counts negatively to your chances of getting on flickrs explore section (pretty much how you get 5000 liking blury photos of fireworks).

I've done a pretty massive bomb drop on comments to see what response it gets. Will let ya know.

Thanks for all the advice. Flickr is a good way to show your work. I can only post in 10 groups (no flickr pro) so I have no idea if that will be negative for me cause I don't think 10 is much. I have only been posting in the best groups and I got alot of views (600 in a week). Alot of people are addid me now and most of em make cool stuff (not like before when I only had friends who did make photoshop shit). Will add some people from this forum if I can find the link. Thanks for the help. And indeed, there are alot of photography blogs and self proclaimed magazine (digital ones). Will let you know how my search will work out.

you definitely got skills, not to ride ya dick...but thangs'll come thru for you. i would say to have an official website w/ a portfolio instead of a tumblr...try a lil advertisin/ self promo...take shots of local upcoming bands/musicians/rappers

Word thanks homie, I appreciate it. Right now i'm just trying to get my foot in the door. I probably have to market myself better. I'm thinking about getting a bunch of stickers printed for my website and bombing random places. Get a lil' street promo in haha.

Thanks for the flickr group recommendations. After joining 4 groups, I got 121 views yesterday after having my flickr for a long while and only having 702 all time

Don't know too much about submitting to blogs but I agree with Shiri about gaining views/popularity on flickr. I started mine in December and didn't really get much comments, favs etc. to begin with but, as of late I get about 400 a day (overall) 2-3 times every week. Though I have never been explored I agree that it takes a combination of the karma theory as well as how often you update/shoot and how much traffic you create, including being linked from other places on the web. There's also the possibility that flickr is just one dude picking whatever he likes lol
