Same here, I really only post in photography threads to hopefully get some C+C or maybe get noticed. Most of my friends regard me as the best photographer in my school (I'm really the only one... ha ha), so hopefully one of them would hire me for a photoshoot or spread the word around. I've even had kids say my parents love your photos and I'm thinking how the hell have their parents seen my photos? Most of my portraits are actually on FB though as I don't think my friends would like to know they're on a bunch of forums.

Nice! Yeah, the 24-70 is something!! What are you using for lighting though? I am thinking of getting an Alien Bee B800 strobe (x2) and really get into flash photography and learn how light is all affecting and what not.

Oh damn alienbees are legit. A B800 may be overkill though unless you are trying to overpower the sun. currently i'm borrowing a B450 from a friend, and that did plenty well when i did some test shots with it via a softbox outside. Especially inside, if you're doing anything inside a B800 is overkill unless you have a massive studio i guess. Definitely recommend alienbees though, though i've never used anything else.

However, those shots above were just done with an on camera strobe ( Yongnuo YN-560) that I put on a stand and shot through an umbrella and synced with the camera via some receivers my friend had. The strobe was actually my friends too, but im borrowing it for the time being. I was looking into getting that lumopro light the strobist really likes, but apparently these Yongnuo flashes are also really good and like 100 dollars cheaper (like 80-90 total), so I may ended picking up one of those instead. They are actually suppose to release a 560-II in december that fixes some issues people had with the original 560, so I may go for that.

It's just hella more convenient to use an on camera strobe for lighting like i did than going for modeling lights too because all you gear you need to set up is like a small stand and an umbrella, whereas modeling lights you have to account for where you are going to pull your power from. This also means that you're more mobile with a setup like I did.

I feel you. Good choice. 3100 has a "Guide" mode that is really helpful for beginners.

Haven't shot too much this fall, but I brought my camera along for a couple quick trips over the past couple weeks.
