Oh its totally cool I understand, the reason I think people like it because HDR provides a unique perspective of something. A different way of looking at something that we can't see with the naked eye which is essentially our jobs as photographers to look at everyday things from a unique perspective.

mmm okay.. i would assume that there are shots that can be done in hdr very well and some not so much.. i'm still n00b at this whole photography thing but i definitely get what you mean. maybe it's just not my cup of tea or maybe it's just that shot but okayy :]

People do HDR in a lot of landscape type photos to match the dynamic range film gives you. Look up Ansel Adams. (people do HDR in black and white too)

I agree though that these days people kind of go overboard with but when its done right it can look amazing.

But when done right it looks amazing. It also takes a shit ton of time to perfect it as it is a lot to do with how the image looks and etc etc.. out of the HDR images I have taken I only like one. I personally hate it when they are too vibrant as well. Also if you know what you are doing you don't just use the HDR image straight out of tonemapping it, you are going to wind up probably editing a lot in Photoshop to get such desired effects.
