What do most of you guys use for lens? I was looking into buying a 50mm 1.8 since that's around a good priced lens for me. The 1.4 is way to much for me.

Man i just realized you were talking about THIS portrait lol. I like this one a lot too, but the one with the black guy on a brown backdrop is literally perfectly lit. I've been trying to figure out ways to boom a light for hairlight. Shit's hard sad

the whole "nifty fifty" thing and the fact my homie grabbed a nikkor 50 1.4 is making me lean towards the new 50mm 1.8 but I have a D3100 and the 35mm seems more appealing. The 50mm looks great though.

Id cop the 35 1.8 and then the 50 1.4 down the road.

The 35 1.8 is a lens you can you can use for pretty much anything. 50 is mainly for portraits and macro stuff. If I'm going to be using a lens for special occations when I need that perfect shot I might as well use the 50 1.4.

You can look on my Flickr link, most of my portraits on the 3rd page and back are taken with the 50 1.4g.


But yeah Ive owned the 35 1.8, 50 1.4, and a bunch of other lenses that I sold. I mainly use my sigma 30mm 1.4 and its pretty much the GOAT lens for a crop sensor camera.

Yup it feels good. The problem is when you run start running out of space or take an amazing pic but you want to put it in the middle but cant. I still shoot with film occationally and probably 1-2 pics in the roll will make it on my wall.

I want a 35mm too but man the price difference on the 50mm 1.8 and 35mm is a huge difference. So personally i'd probably end up with a 50mm since i don't want to be spending much now and want a lower light lens. Kit lens works well but sometimes i dont get fast enough shutter speeds indoors. The only thing that might worry me is that there's no IS in the 50mm 1.8.
