i've really been meaning to buy a DSLR, i've borrowed my friend's for a while and i decided i need my own. i've been looking at Canon's Rebel XT/XTi. i was wondering if anyone can vouch for buying used DSLRs, or any other used electronics, off Amazon? any help is appreciated, thanks.

i thought i'd make a general thread of this in case any one else needed help.

buying a second hand dslr (especially if it's an older model) is a great move. as long as you buy it from a reputable seller, no worries. not only do you save money, but you also know that the item will work properly right out of the box.

btw, avoid amazon / ebay if you're buying a used camera. you want an xt / xti? hit up a canon forum and check out their for sale section. i recommend POTN.

nothing wrong with a used dslr if you do your homework. i personally like checking the used camera in person. check for cosmetic damage, how many shutter actuations the camera has, if the sensor is clean.

btw if your in socal im selling a used nikon d60

i'm looking at Amazon's used cameras. does some Amazon associate or something inspect the camera for legitimacy or something? or can random people just list it on Amazon like ebay?

I'm stuck between the cannon 400d (450 budget permitting) and nikon d3000. Was thinking of trying each out in a shop soonish.
Any help/advice?

the canon 400d is a nice camera, I had it for 4 yrs with zero problem, just did a custom firmware, now I can use spot metering and 3200 iso.

Any DSLR is good, are you looking more towards Nikon or Canon? (Canon FTW cool)
Lenses are very important and it all depends what kind of photography you going use the camera for.
