Everyone has there own opinion of course and his opinion doesn't justify whether or not it is good.

One piece of advice: don't try to follow every opinion/advice on here or you won't get anywhere. Just pick something and stick with it.

Don't worry too much about the body right now because they're easily replaceable with an upgrade. Focus more on the lens, since they're not interchangeable.

Well the deal at Costco that we're talking about comes w/ 2 lenses.
55mm and 250mm. Is that the ones you're talking about that aren't too great?

He said lens so he probably just has the 55mm kit lens. the 250mm isn't part of the kit rather just in the deal with Costco.

It's called conflicting ideas.

For example, when one person tells another to get this camera and lens. And when a third person comes up and saying that the camera or lens is crap.

Do you need a better explanation?

For 700-800, you aren't going to get any spectacular glass. What you'll probably get is a pretty entry level lens (something like an 18-55mm w/e w/e) because thats usually what comes with kits.

If its your first SLR, I'd focus on getting a decent body with a standard lens, because you still will need to get used to using a DSLR before you start producing amazing photos anyways. Look into buying a kit, they have pretty good deals on them sometimes.

I personally have to throw my hat in for Pentax. I've always loved them just because I was introduced to them as a kid. I've always found they're great cameras and they're a bit cheaper than similar cameras from bigger names would be. You might want to look into something like this which would be an awesome intro camera.

Went with the Canon Rebel T1i.
Package came with a 55mm and 250mm lens.
I've had it for a few days so far and I like it.
Thanks for all the advice!

@MisterT
You have some pretty good shots, especially considering that you shot with a point-and-shoot camera. Now that you have a DSLR, you'll have more control and can take even better shots. Oh, and by the way, you should shoot in RAW and not JPG. RAW contains more light data and gives a wider range of colors. Cheers!smile
