i can see why anyone would think that. it sort of is if youre planning on becoming an artist. but it still kind of isnt. im planning on going into education so its not a waste for me imo.

Why is there a conception that going to art school and obtaining an art degree will land you an inferior profession? I was thinking of transferring to an art school since my interest in biology is waning and I've always had an acute interest in art and photography.

Their nothing wrong with going to art school but their is this misconception that once you graduate your going to land your dream job. For some people that does happen but with the majority of graduates they have to bust their ass which means working at a shitty job for while before they work somewhere where their talent is needed. An Art degree is close to worthless if your skills isn't developed and you actually want to grow as an artist. I know people who made it in industry and didn't go to art school(dont do that)but i think you get so much more if you in an environment working with people who that same passion.

going to art school, the best thing to do is....
.... learn what interests you and put in your all, don't take any of the liberal/math/english or what ever you can get at a community collage. Just take the art classes, put in your all, get all the tools and either go for yours out in the world or If you do plan on getting a degree, it's all good, I would rather get certified or grab an AA and be done, then you can apply for 1 class, and use you id to throw yourself into the workshops your school might offer(that's where the dope artist go anyways + you get more than one perspective, technique, theory, faster development) Art school is funny. Not every one got that gift that is in there. Doing the research on the teachers helps A LOT, before you decide on your classes. I picked the dope teachers & either sat next to them while they demo or do work along with you in class. You'll be surprised how fast you develop. workshops are where it's at though, more laid back and freer.

Seriously, as corny as this may sound, if you want to do something, then go for it. If you're really passionate about what you do, then one way or another, it'll take you somewhere good.

Emily Carr Universsity in Vancouver, BC is pretty good! Campus is siiick!

I want to go to Ringling College though, but damn, tuition in the States for Canadians is sooo expensive..

hmm im pretty sure most people will agree with me that brookes is a joke now. they used to be good in the past apparently but started falling apart pretty recently. if youre looking for schools in california try

cal arts
usc/roski
otis
cca

for conceptual art

or

art center
otis

for commercial art. im probably missing a ton but those were the ones that i looked at
