Light trails are so much fun and you always get something unique in every shot. Ive found that you get the best results if you go out in a car at night, let you mate drive you around at 40 or 50 and sit in the back snapping away. Ive got some sweet traffic light shots in the past with the greens oranges and reds flowing away from the traffic.

Look out for different colors of light and your get some great results.

its called light painting.

i mostly use torches (bright flash lights) such as like maglites or something. a few of the big light painters online use mostly things that they create. such as light boxes, that produce a stenciled light picture, or they will wire up a cold cathode to a paint roller stick

Light painting or light graffiti is da shit and something fun to do with friends just bugging out! Below are a just a few I did with other heads 3 years ago.

i got a d80 but it should be the same. put it to s mode [shutter priority] and use the main thumb dial and increase the exposure time. max is 30 seconds i think

you can sort of see him in the background. If you move around (and not just in one spot while drawing), you wont be in the shot.
