Any thoughts on the direction their going in with this.
I think they're heading in the right direction. It's refreshing to see 3s redefine and mature in so little time - I'm looking forward to spring releases. TwelveBar & 10deep are the only other streetwear brands that are heading in the same direction. With all these changes the only concern is the price points - if they increase their prices too much then they'll cut off the base that got them to where they are.
theres actually another 3sixteen thread already. for some reason, two got created during the new year

I can't wait for the new stuff, but there is still so many items I want from previous seasons. I still want the salt and pepper crew and a few utility shirts! I really hope to see more button ups for spring.
Still loving the denim a lot. Wore it out for New Year's Day morning bloody marys and breakfast.
So sad... Out of my own fault, one of the belt loops tore at the stitching :(. Prob not too bad, but I hope it doesn't get worse.

Happy new year's everyone. I like how we have two 2009 threads.
TigerPreezy - We're working on a system where customers can register their product with us to give feedback, get hemming on their jeans, or repairs if they happen to bust a belt loop drinking bloody mary's.

We weren't exactly pleased with how the samples came out, so instead of putting out a B+ product, we decided to wait and find the right manufacturers. We try to be very picky about product that hits the market and would rather cancel a style than put out something that we can't back fully. A pretty strong lineup of winter accessories will drop with Fall 09 line. I'm gonna be reviewing the samples this week.

As of now, no - our first priority is protecting our retailers and allowing them to sell through on our current season. Our Holiday collection is still pretty new so we'd prefer customers buy it from our accounts first and foremost. When the season is drawing closer to completion we may run some kind of sale, and we'll definitely post about it when that time comes.
Thanks for the continued support everyone.

For those of you who weren't aware, Digital Gravel has put together a charity effort called "The Water Project" to help raise funds for a clean water playpump to be built in Africa. They've assembed 10 companies who have donated designs to the project, and upon selling just 60 pieces of each graphic, the necessary $14,000 will be collected to have one installed.
Here's a quick summary of how a playpump works:
http://www.playpumps.org/atf/cf/%7BC3CA6A66-3221-432A-BE96-E8E4AB820549%7D/7STEPS.JPG
While children have fun spinning on the PlayPump merry-go-round (1), clean water is pumped (2) from underground (3) into a 2,500-liter tank (4), standing seven meters above the ground. A simple tap (5) makes it easy for adults and children to draw water. Excess water is diverted from the storage tank back down into the borehole (6).
The presence of pumps is important because it allows families to have easy access to clean water in a sustainable fashion, and allows kids to go to school instead of walking miles to obtain water for their home.
We were asked by DG to design a graphic that would be produced in limited quantities and sold on their site to help fund a playpump. Our designer, Jeff Hamada, created a graphic combining our logo and hundreds of water droplets of different sizes - here it is:
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1737/123/80/736960382/n736960382_5219194_4814.jpg
Last I checked, several sizes are already sold out from many of the designs already. If you're interested in supporting a very worthwhile cause, stop by http://www.digitalgravel.com/water and take a look at what's for sale. For more information on playpumps, you can hit up http://www.playpumps.org.

Anyone get a chance to read our year end wrap up from the blog? We know that although a shift in brand direction may be visible from season to season, it was important to us to verbalize it to our supporters.
Interested to hear all your thoughts on what Drew and I wrote.

Hope the fellas don't mind me posting what was on the blog. Everyone should check out the blog though, I always find the posts interesting.
My take: I like where you guys have been headed. As a long time fan I've seen the evolution to something more grown and mature. The stuff you guys are putting out are classics in my eyes and you can't go wrong with classic looks and styles. Classic with a bit of the 3sixteen spin
"When brainstorming about our year end recap, we were very tempted to cop out and compile a “Year in Pictures” - or spend the bulk of our writing discussing the events, runway shows and pop-up shops that we put together across the country. In the end, we realized that we wouldn’t be properly summarizing 2008. For us at 3sixteen, it is, and will always be, all about the product.
Around this time last year, we began planning the framework for our most ambitious and extensive line of clothing yet, which released in the Fall/Holiday seasons. Up until that time, we had produced primarily t-shirts with a sprinkling of outerwear and accessories. The small offering of apparel we made such as the Monsoon and Squadron Jackets had always been well received by the public and retailers alike. We had built a strong following for the brand, partnered with the right manufacturers, and felt that everything was in place to successfully expand the line.
Longtime followers of the brand and industry friends had asked us what our intentions for the line were once our Fall lookbook debuted, as it didn’t resemble anything we had done up until that point. Though our roots were firmly entrenched in the independent street market, the ability to finally make the kind of clothing we had always wanted to release yielded a collection that looked more grown up than a lot of what our peers were putting out. The intention was never to reinvent 3sixteen as a men’s contemporary brand, even though much of what we were making was able to find a home in those boutiques. The biggest factors that led to this transition were our maturing tastes as individuals and designers coupled with the ability to finally execute on the ideas we had for the line. And to be honest, nothing pleased us more than having a brand that could sit in a diverse number of stores and be worn by all kinds of people.
Our goal has always been to grow 3sixteen into a menswear line that will stand the test of time from both a design and construction perspective. We’re constantly working to bring this to fruition and our hope is that the design values that are important to us will continue to make themselves apparent in our collection this upcoming year. To everyone that’s supported us so faithfully in 2008, thank you - we’re excited for what’s to come.
-Andrew & Johan "

I haven't been able to put too much work in on my indigo SL's as I have another pair that I've been wearing quite a bit... they are due for a wash soon, though, so my SL's will start seeing more time in the rotation.
We're really pleased to see that the denim was so well received in its first release - we're 100% sold out and are gearing up for our next production run. Johan's also meeting with our manufacturer this week to check in on new silhouettes and new denim fabrics for future seasons to ensure that samples are ready for our upcoming tradeshows (more information forthcoming on this).

While we’re off showing new collections at Capsule NY, we’ve got good deals aplenty on our previous collections. As we gear up for Spring 09, we’ve decided to bring back our extremely popular online sample sale - Bucksworth - for a third time.
Bucksworth 3 begins at noon on Monday, January 19th at 3sixteenshop.com (http://www.3sixteenshop.com). Due to the overwhelming response we received from the previous two iterations, we want to ensure that we have sufficient quantities of product to ship out. Orders therefore can only be made for nine hours (Noon – 9pm EST) on January 19th. Once the first round of orders are packed and stock is confirmed, the sale may be re-initiated later on in the week - but if stock is insufficient, the sale will be over. As such, we suggest picking a box up right when the sale goes live as there will be no guarantees that the sale will return or that your size will be available in the next round.
Three package levels of $60, $150, and $250 will be available for purchase. Each package’s contents are chosen at random in the buyer’s specified size and are worth well over two to three times the cost at retail value. Any questions or concerns regarding Bucksworth 3 can be sent to info@3sixteen.com - we’ll respond as quickly as possible.

Wojo - Yes, select fall/holiday08 items will be in play. As I've mentioned before, we really try to protect our retailers who still may have current season product on shelves, but hopefully most of it has sold through at this point. We're aware that many of the folks who frequent these boards have purchased a package in the past and while we certainly can't guarantee that you won't receive any doubles of things you've gotten in the past, we want to try and keep the packages somewhat fresh. We'll do our best, but at the end of the day it goes without saying that everyone gets a killer deal no matter what's in the box.
Onlyonetime - There won't be any Spring'09 samples included in the boxes.

Andrew - I would like to exchange some items that I purchased, but I haven't received any replies to the e-mails that I've sent. What's going on? I imagine once the Bucksworth madness starts stuff like exchanges will be even less of a priority...
It sucks to hear that you guys are doing the Bucksworth again, great for the consumers because they're getting a wicked deal, but sucks because you guys have to clear out stock. I know you guys were hoping that second one would be the last one. I'm guessing it's likely that I will receive multiple doubles if I were to order a Bucksworth, considering the number of recent pieces I have. I don't suppose that this could be avoided if I provided a list of pieces I already had.

considering the field jacket is more than any box alone and that it's from the most recent season i'm gonna say it won't be in there.
Because of the sheer number of orders we receive each time we have a Bucksworth sale, we cannot accomodate for what people already own and don't want doubles of. It would hold up the packing and shipping process too much. If you happen to get doubles of something you already own, give em to a friend and spread the love.
uEih - The packages will go live on the webstore tomorrow morning, and you'll be able to see what we'll include in each one. They'll be available for purchase for most of the day so you'll have sufficient time to find the best package for you.
TOF - We don't usually ship BW orders internationally because they are huge boxes and shipping would cost a lot. You can email me at johan@3sixteen.com and we can try and get you a shipping estimate.
modernART - Field Jacket will most likely not be included in any of the packages, but we are going to put together something for our customers who would rather buy exactly what they want from the webstore. We'll release more info about this tomorrow when the first day of Bucksworth is closed.

VERY happy owner of Monsoon and Grey Field Jacket. I'm about 5'5" and the Monsoon jacket fits me perfectly with the cut ending at my waist. For me, the Field Jacket cut goes a good 5 to 6 inches past my waist.
BTW, the Field Jacket really stands out in the crowd. Went to a birthday this past weekend and had to tell strangers about the brand when they came up to ask about the jacket. 2009 is going to be exciting!

maybe you can add it int he comments box and they'll honor it. it might be a hassle for them though so i'm not sure. man i still can't decide between $150 or $250 especially with this tidbit but we are going to put together something for our customers who would rather buy exactly what they want from the webstore. We'll release more info about this tomorrow when the first day of Bucksworth is closed.

yea i think i've decided the same.
I have a feeling that little thing that's being put together is going to be some kinda sale, like 50% off? Anyways grabbed the 250$ one, it was hard deciding between 150 or 250 and i just thought to go big since it's once in a while thing.

hey i got a few questions
1) do the 3sixteen graphin tees fit slim?...or do they fit regularish like those diamond and hundreds tees?
2) will the tees be just from hoilday 08?
Ricta

^^ their new tees from fall/holiday and pretty much hence forth (to my knowledge) are printed on tultex, which are a bit slimmer. I have a couple of medium shirts -- i washed them and machined dried and they fit like smalls now. So you can either buy you usual t-shirt size and hang dry or go with a size up if you like looser fitting shirts.
As for the tees question, I think mostof it will be from fall/holiday but the occasional tee from previous seasons might be included. Johan can correct me if im wrong
hope this helps brandnewsb

brandnewsb - BW packages will include a mix of t-shirts and cut and sew from different seasons. We will do our best to make sure it's balanced between old and new product. Very little of Holiday 08/09 will be included because it is still in stores in some cases and we want to make sure to protect our retailers.

3sixteen cut and sew pieces > their graphic tees
I wouldn't say always. I'd say 3s is definitely maturing but their graphic T's really show the inspiration behind the brand. I think the T's hold their own spot - prompting me to get the $250 BW
Also kind of biased because I usually wear T's here in San Diego where it's 80 degrees in January 8)

i wouldnt really recommend this since anything post bucksworth wont include the variety of the bucksworth --- chances are the best stuff is going to put in packages and whatevers left will be included in 'post-bucksworth' But of course if you only looking for one particular piece then that is probably the better of the two deals. I'm just saying what you get in the higher end packages are a real steal when you compare it to retail.

We know that the random assortments in the Bucksworth packages aren’t for everyone… maybe you’re not into surprises. Perhaps you’re the kind of person who’d rather choose what he purchases and will pay more for that luxury. With that in mind, we’re launching our biggest sale we’ve ever done: everything in our online store (3sixteenshop.com (http://www.3sixteenshop.com)) is now 40% off for the next three days only. Enter coupon code “40percentoff” at checkout to obtain the discount. Orders will be shipping out immediately, but please allow us a few days in the event that we get slightly backed up.
Thank you for the continued support.

i own the spring squadron jacket and it keeps me sufficiently warm on the occasional cold so-cal night but the new (fall/holiday) squadron is warmer because it's a higher gram jacket (think thicker). The Spring jacket was, i forget the exact amount of grams but i think between 180-240 grams and the fall squadron is 375 grams. I'm sure guys on here own the fall squadron so they can further help ya with your purchase.
Do you live in So-cal or somewhere colder?
andrew3sixteen

The Squadron Jacket is quite warm.... I'm in NY and with that as a base layer and another jacket over it, I'm good to go. If you're on the west coast it should suffice for most weather situations, and if you're in a colder place it will be a good layering piece for cold weather and great for Spring and Fall alone.

overtheradar and oozedrip: regarding the shipping, that was the correct price. ordinarily the jacket is over $350 which puts it into the higher tier of shipping... the thing that we just found out about the coupon code is that it's taking 40% off of everything including the shipping. so you only paid $15 for the shipping on the jacket, not $24.
regarding field jacket length, it's modeled after a traditional m65 so yes, it does fall at the thigh.

Hey Andrew well the higher price bracket makes sense but my receipt from paypal doesn't reflect what you said.
Item Price: $188.00 USD

So I read the description of the Melton Bomber, noticed "high waisted." Does that mean its like the Monsoon Jacket? in terms of length. I hope not.
I own both the Monsoon and the Melton Bomber in medium. The Monsoon hits at mid-fly (on my pants) for me. The Melton Bomber hits at the bottom of the fly, so it is ~2 inches longer in length; I'd say that the modeled photo of the bomber accurately depicts its length. Personally, I prefer the higher waist of the Monsoon, and wish that the Melton Bomber was cut higher. I find that with the longer length the material bunches up in the torso causing it to flare out, making an unflattering pear-shaped silhouette. It's still a nice jacket but I think the fit could have been better, on my body shape at least.

Hey Andrew, if I bought a Large field jacket would there be any way to shrink it a tad? Maybe wash it in hot water (might ruin it? ) and machine dry? I liked the fit on the medium but it was a bit short but the large wasnt fitted enough for me. Plus I cant find a medium gray one.

Ricta, I dont really think there's a way to shrink outerwear as you have to remember that the lining wont shrink at the same rate and it might end up funny. I think you will be happy with the Medium.... Travis McCoy picked up a size L and he's really tall (6'3"-6'4"), so as long as you're 6' or under the medium should be ok...

orucker - We're doing one last pass thru our warehouse and if we have any extra stock on the field jackets or anything else we'll update them on the store.
As for the cardi, a size L should be ok for you - it is slightly slimmer than other pieces we've made but I think the Large should work.

Hey Andrew,
Can you tell me how the sizing of the Small Field Jacket is compared to a Medium? I am 5'5" and have a medium right now but I have a strong suspicion that a small could fit me better. Right now I would say that wearing the medium right now, it looks like it's a bit oversized for my frame. I'm thinking I can get a slimmer looking fit with a size small?
andrew3sixteen
01-30-2009, 11:24 PM
^The jacket is made for layering, as it's an outerwear piece... but being that you're in a warmer part of the country, you can elect to size down to a Small for a slimmer fit as you wont need to wear as much underneath it.

got my bw3 delivered today .. included the natural pinstripe hooded blazer .. a fantastic piece and an old school color blocked crew with the pick axe logo. the tees from the newer seasons are on point with the fit but the older ones are just too darn big for me. overall i'm very happy with the package.
andrew - i'm considering copping the utility shirt; sizing runs about the same as this season's tees? BTW, the large hooded blazer pretty much fits me exactly the same as the model.
thanks guys!

hiatus, if you like the slimmer fit of the newer season's tees i think you'll be happy with the fit of the utility shirt. just FYI, the color blocked crewneck is more of a relaxed fit because it's an athletic-inspired piece, so if you find that to be the case then you're good with a utility shirt in the same size.... but if you fill that crewneck out pretty well then size up on the utility shirt. hope this helps.

i'm pretty sure it has been taking off 40% of the shipping price as well which may be how you got a little more off. not sure.

Mike is right - the 40% off coupon code has been affecting the shipping price as well, which we haven't been able to figure out how to fix yet. So it's well above 40% overall. We would rather let people keep ordering than pull it down and try to correct it right now.

Just a heads up that our 40% off sale in our online store (3sixteenshop.com (http://www.3sixteenshop.com)) is coming to a close soon. We took a final count in our warehouse and updated the online store once again to ensure that all sizes that we still have in stock are available. If you were looking for something before and it was sold out, check back to see if it's available again. Enter coupon code "fortypercentsale" at checkout to obtain the discount. The sale ends Monday, February 9th.
