View Full Version : Does Noone ever make good shirts in Brown? WTF
Every hot tee i see is either black, white, even purple is more common than brown
whats the deal? Basically other colors are hard to find hot tees in, black and white are the most common, followed by purple and maybe red..
GRN Apple Tree uses brown a lot.

there's been a bit of a backlash against earth toned tees since LRG wore it down to the bone. everyone seems to be on the bright crazy colored tees... but it'll swing back around again. look for some this fall... i bet quite a few will make a return to brown.
can someone post some pics of brown tees that actually look nice?

Yeah like DUM said, GRN makes a lot of dope tees in brown. Lemme find some batteries for my camera and I'll take some pics.

I don't know if you like Diamond tees, but I do a lot in Brown too.
This spring that just passed I did Brown in these designs.
1.Ink Vein X Diamond
2.Classic foil - BROWN WIT GOLD FOIL
3.Og Script
4.Misfits Diamond X Collabo NY
5.Fillmore Lions
and I think a few others too.
Brown is always good... IMO

We would all love to make brown tees but the fact of the matter is they don't sell. You are in the minority homi. If I include them in my catalogs then not one store will pick the brown color of a design

This might be true, but I make them anyway because I like them.
Fuck what supposedly sells..... thats my motto.
Then again I dont sell by color, I sell by design and just send shops an assortment of what colors are available.
I make some wild colorways sometimes.... no shop has ever said a word.

yuh but not all of us have huge companies like yours where you have the luxury to do that. 'fuck what supposedly sells' doesnt really work if you're a small clothing line and can only make a few shirts every season and gotta build capital. in those cases you kind of have to concern yourself with what sells. not saying you have to sell out or lose your identity but you can't be like aaron and make bucket hats and expect the stores to buy them off of your no-name brand. but diamond can do that because diamond is huger than my dad's balls

the reason brown tees dont sell all that well is because most brands dont use a dark brown color tee. And dont put an intricate grafix on them.
Find a dark brown tee and put a large intricate detailed grafix on it and i garuntee you it will sell out. The dark brown tees look perfect with denim. Its so hard to find them but yeah GRNapple tree makes some dope ones. Other brands need to get up on that too.

I have done this since the begining, but maybe my stores order differently than yours. Like I said, I have never shown colorways to my accounts. I show one colorway with the graphic on it and then I just make whatever colors I like and send an assortment.
Active use to sell a shitload of Diamond tees then tried to tell me that they wanted to make their own colorways of my shirts.... I said no and they kept buggin me about it so I laughed at them and pulled the account... simple as that. Stores shouldn't be able to dictate what I make because they think that they know what is best. We are here as designers to tell people what is new and hot. Not the other way around.
My shirts sold out of Active within a couple days every time they dropped, so them telling me to do different colors that they wanted just didn't make sence to me.
That is what bugs me about stores like that is that everything in there looks the same...... I want my stuff to stand out and be different than what everyone else is doing.... If they don't like it then fuck 'em.

nope i completely disagree. andrew was right. since Grn and LRG have over done the brown organic earth tone thing, no one wants to wear a brown shirt if their into this scene. because none of us want to be associated with either of those brands. grn is pretty. lrg is hip hop yo yo macy's wtf. so brown is doo doo like your doooodooo

Ugh, you don't need 'shoes to wear with it'. Matchy-matchy shit is overdone and usually ugly. Throw on some of your shoes....if it looks bad try the next pair.

why don't you call digital gravel and cry about it i imagine you to look exactly like that picture in you avatar LOLOLO
interesting idea about sticking it to stores and picking the colors LOL
thats better i think, as long as u keep em happy by having hot designs that sell well
the problem with Brown is that u cant just stick a normal design on a brown tee, it has to work well on brown to begin with, and have complimentary colors
most brands dont know how to mix and match colors very well, and thus just do teh same design in 3-5 different colors for no apparent reason, when its OBVIOUS it looks best in a certain color.
anyway thats my rant for the day
colors that also need some shine are :
Cream, Red, Green, and Royal Blue
I like the 'red quartz' color of King Stampede's "Lauren" tee a lot.

Exactly!. It's so easy to complain, but it's hard to do something for most people. Stop being lazy, and start making things happen for yourself. Nobody is going to hold your hand and tell you where to find the perfect shirt.
not everyone has time to make their own shirts....imagine that?

I'm just stating something. Sorry it takes less time to post than to make and design a shirt. Little oversensitive are we?

yeah i know, but u dont sell all of em in Toronto :P
props to selling to adrift though, store is tight and a nice supporter of the toronto skate scene
more brands need to think outside the box and do some experimental colors
i mean navy isnt even that out there, but i rarely EVER see it
