i'm 17 and think i might want to learn.
$100 should cover it around right?
i know its not easy, but how hard do you think it would be to learn?

Go to your skate shop and get a blank deck, cheap trucks, red bearings and blank wheels. They're usually real helpful.. $100 should cover it.
Do you have friends that skate??

hmmm if you go on amazon.com you can get a good quality board preassembled for about 50 so i think youre spending too much then as far as actually skating just do what lupe says first you kick then you push and then you coast just that simple lol

you can definately get some decent stuff for 100, active throws together some decent boards and certain mom & pop skateshops throw you deals if your new.

hmmm so i looked into this.... anything that's 50 dollars there is like an "andy macdonald zon" board which you don't want... ever. But the boards that they do have for 90 aren't half bad... amazon is like a huge corporation that knows nothing about skateboarding... so i would say stick to your local shop or one of the finer skateboarding oriented online dealers ie:
www.activemailorder.com
www.utilityboardsupply.com
www.ccs.com
etc. etc.
yep.

Go to your local shop, say "i have 100 bucks" and they will hook you up.
Blank/Shop deck, INDEPENDENT TRUCKS, blank wheels, cheap bearings, bolts and grip, should be well under 100, enough left over for some band-aids from the scrapes you're going to get falling.
As for actually learning, nothing beats going out and doing it. If you see some kids skating go up and say whats up, dont be afraid. Just take it at your own pace and have fun. Don't worry if you cant land a kickflip in the first few months, most people dont.

This dude had a full head of grey and a full set of pads!
Get good fitting pads and a helmet. Wear the pads under your clothes if you're shy :)

On the topic of geezers skating, this gem was stolen from Vice:

"In one fell swoop of a frontside lipslide this wizened old grandpa wiped out all our shit about grups and growing old gracefully and all that. We were wrong."

Man, skateboarding is hard. I wish I could do it but I can't. I tried to do it when everyone was doing it, I could do an ollie, a shove-it and a kickflip. Then I decided that I was never gonna get good and I stuck with basketball.

INDEPENDENT TRUCKS
Word up. I busted my thigh yesterday trying to do a kick flip on my old school deck. My thigh feels like a big booty girl rode me for hours.
I ride old school/long boards if anything though, not really a trickster.
