View Full Version : streetwear from a female's POV. hate or love?
Just wondering in ur experience, what do females think about ur style and streetwear in general. Girls tend to say cool shirt or whatever at some of my fits, but nothing serious.
most girls i know think some pieces are cool or eyecatching, but i will say the majority of females prefer a more "traditional, classic look", ie more preppy or classic..
they'll be exceptions, some girls probably love guys who look hood (fitted cap, tall tees), but for the most part, girls i think prefer a more grown look. I also think that since most street brands are relatively unknown in the mainstream, wearing a hundreds tee is gonna have less shine than something from A&F.
APC jeans are not as trendy as say seven for all mankind..
that is not to say i care, i wear what i like, and i dont take external validation as a major motivating factor to my purchases..
what have u worn that girls really liked, or anything that girls didnt like at all..

umm, at school alot of girls just say nice shoes and stuff like that
but when i wore my bape hoody, girls were on my nuts, cuz nooone in my grade level rocks any fiyahh ( im in 8th grade but im a freshmen now) but thats about it
otherwise girls usually go for the American eagle guys with destroyed jeans
lol just funny how u put that...
BAPE is obviously something that stands out blatantly..
before someone flames me, this is just a simple fun discussion, really i think everyone should wear stuff that reflects their own personality and style, rather than looking for external approval, but it is interesting to see what girls generally think about this subculture..

Many of my female friends and some I meet compliment me on my style all the time, because at my age, my style is funky, but toned down(one of my friends told me that). They also tell me I can get away with some clothes because of my attitude. I dont dress for shock value/attention, I leave that to the younger crowd. I honestly think slim jeans, t-shirt, classic kicks, and and a starter cap is'nt special, but thats my uniform and I wear it well:)

oh snap u still wear starter caps, thats dope. 8)
i agree with u the classics never go wrong, flashy shit is sometimes only here for now, and then in a year u might feel dumb in it..
although, i think any good wardrobe has a mix..

Honestly girls say I have great style but never really straight up comment on a specific shirt or hoody or pair of jeans or shoes but like most of the time it is random dudes. But honestly I wear everything and switch my style up and girls seem kinda embarassed to comment on my streetwear type clothing because they do not know anything about the brands but say I was wearing Ralph Lauren they would comment on that cuz they would know actually what brand it is. I pretty much dress to impress myself nowadays and see what I can do with an outfit cuz pretty much I expect a girl to be into my style.

woman love the way i dress in college
because im the only sneaker head that knows about proper exclusive kicks and clothing. . .and having links with older people i can get garms which people my age wouldn't be able to afford without saving 5months wages or doing a bank scam. . .
and the way i match it up keep it fresh and don't follow crowd makes me differnt aswel. . .
but in london theres seems to be a general trend of following fashion when one person has a pair of fresh sneakers from footlocker or jd every body else runs to go get. . .causing everyone to dress the same
but since i have bared myself from jd and footlocker it aint a problem with me

I usually get looks from people when I'm in "streetwear" gear but they never ask me anything, they just look like "what brand is that". But from girls I know, they always compliment me on my steez and ask me where I get stuff. Conversation always ends up in bed. (at least I wish it would more often)

most chicks think alot of streetwear dudes is clowns! it's all about attitude, and alot of streetwear cats don't have that. just cause you were the first on the net to buy a hundreds hoodie don't mean you have steez. and a chicks see though that alot of times, so the shit you wear means nothing, it how you rock it homie!

Well we must come from different places then. Like ya sometimes when I wear my Hundreds Beautiful shirt with the blonde chick on it some blonde girls say nice shirt and stuff like that but not like if I were to put a fresh Ralph Lauren ensemble together or something with a brand name all over it, then they would know what I am wearing. Girls feel stupid by asking a guy about fashion or brands in my past experience and don't understand much about streetwear.

i think it depends on the girl...but i would agree that in general, sneakerculture reflects a very youth-oriented attitude and feel. a lot of the stuff is flashy and loud and intended to draw attention. in that regard you will get comments and stuff from girls, but not necessarily attraction.
it's not the clothes that necessarily attract, it's the fact that wearing flashy clothes and standing out SUBCOMMUNICATES that you are someone who is confident, up-with fashion, etc., and THOSE are the things that attract the girls. if you look cool with cool clothes but have no personality to back it up the girls will see through that real fast. but i think wearing cool clothes allows you to project a confidence that is attractive and can grab a girl's attention. but you better have more to offer.
everyone has different tastes. i would say that most women probably are more attracted to a more mature sophisticated look, something you would see in a GQ or Details magazine, for example. Streetwear I think tends to be more congruent for highschool/college crowd. In the end, it's all about your atttude and personality. The clothes are a reflection of that.
i have a very diverse wardrobe that I think reflects my eclectic personality. I LOVE streetwear and sneakers and have a lot of cool stuff but I have the dress shirts and nice dress shoes for those occasions like dates, etc.
there is no general rule about this stuff, it all comes down to dressing appropriately for the occaision. take a look at Jay-Z and Puffy for example. do they just rock streetwear all the time? No, they rock it when it's appropriate, and they also wear really nice suits and dress shirts too.
if you want to attract blond sorority abercrombie girls, well, wearing BAPES and Ecko isn't probably the way to go (although if you have a lot of game you can overcome anything). Likewise, if I'm trying to land a sophisticated British girl like Kate Beckinsale, she's probably attracted to the GQ type guys.
you should always dress appropriately to project an identity that is congruent, clear, and confident.
has a girl replied in here?

no, so i guess i'll be the first.
personally, i think anyone that is fully dipped in the hottest trends is a straight up clown.
it shows a lack of personal innovation and style. it's real easy to check up on hypebeast or any one, if not all of these style sites and blogs and then go drop some cash and sport the hottest looks of the moment. and it's the kind of thing where you might look back at pictures of yourself in say 5 years, and wonder "why the hell was I wearing that?" or "remember when that was hot?"
true style is the ability to pay attention to multiple styles and trends, and to be able to pick and choose what you're willing to wear, and what to wear it with. to be able to sport some of the same looks as the next dude, but to flip it, or to make it work for you on a level where it looks like you came up with that, rather than the society or scene you've immersed yourself in. in the end, everything is overrated, and can be easily overdone.
and the reason chicks don't ask you about your clothes, isn't because they're embarrassed, it's probably because they don't care. who really wants to listen to a man talk about his clothes? only someone who's probably just as insecure about whether they're truly rockin whatever trend they're sporting, and needs some more reassurance.

i have got to agree, because 50 dudes rocking the same "streetwear" ensemble is just as bad as 50 dudes rocking a "mainstream" ensemble, you think you're "different" but then there's other people that are spying on the same gear that you are...it's all about just being comfortable with who you are and what you like. too much of anything is just boring.
and i agree with sugar, why the hell would i care what brand a guy is wearing?

craziest thing that happened with me from streetwear clothes was i had on the fucking awesome tee of the girl givin dome
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3453/sofaking8sh.jpg
and some spanish chick that had been flirtin with me like kinda crouched down in front of me in the club and pretended she was holdin my meat and suckin me off..i didnt know what she was doin at 1st but then she pointed at the shirt to her friend...and yes its about ya swagger like homeboy said...cause i seen how a lot of yall dress..and yall just look nerdy..if a girl thinks u fly or notice ya swag they might say something to u bout how u dress..not to be on no cocky shit but from the people i seen on here i can rock the same shit as yall and get more attention...to tell the truth i think half of the girls that comment on ya gear just wanna talk/holla at u..but with shoes its different cause they can rock those too unlike ur clothes..so if they ask they prolly wanna cop a pair

like the other girls said sometimes guys in streetwear show they have style. other times, when they buy every hyped item and rock them all together they look like they are trying WAY to hard, or just dont match. :/ basically if a guy can look confindent, sexy and like an individual its all good. one thing, if your gonna be rocking sneakers that retail for like $300 and be old enough to be independent, dont live at home with your mom or not have a job. thats not sexy.
its true, that its more about how u rock it then wut. I dont buy things that dont fit well or look good on me, and thats the most important thing, to feel comfortable with every piece ur rocking and make it all come together in a unique way..
however, for the most part though, i think streetwear is really on the outskirts of acceptable fashion and that makes it interesting, but not neccesarily desired. But game can overcome anything

Yeah, I don't really care that much about a dude's clothes, though I can't say that I'm impressed with some guy wearin' a whole lotta hype.
its really one of those open ended questions.
like,.. does what a girl wear attract a guy?
to me, no. to you, who knows?
girls arent that different from guys, its just damn hormones and crappy organs that seperate us.
my girlfriend, who ive been with for 4 years now, used to be like why the hell do you like bape (this was 4 years ago), and would point and laugh at funny gaijin doods rockin bape. now, she goes to the apee store almost weekly, and gets really good deals that make me angry ; ( then again, she isnt a stereotypical japanese chick you see in fashion mags, shes older, and works in an office.
which is pretty hilarious because in high school she was a hardcore punk and was a drummer for this scary all girl punk band.
so, that just goes to show how broad of a question is being asked, and how everyone will differ.

I honestly prefer when guys look more "hood" than when they go all out with the streetwear. I think I'd take a guy wearing a more mainstream brand like LRG than a guy wearing BAPE anyday...I'd most likely laugh at a guy who was wearing all the bright colors with all-over prints and matching kicks. It all depends on the person and how they carry themselves, too. My bf mixes mainstream hood and street pretty well, he never goes over the top like a lot of these guys I see do. The most out-there (color-wise) kicks he's got are the Tiffany Dunks, and I bought him those, hah.
As for the prep look, if you can pull it off, go for it. It looks good when someone can do it right. Not a lot of people can, though.
girls around here seem to like my clothes as much as I do...so I'm happy.
They only like your clothing?
This may be a bit off topic, but I don't care what style the person likes, as long as they rock whatever they do without the fake attitude.
