well, it depends on what YOU want to do. rails? pipes? trails? park?
but the best all around board i suggest would a Rome (http://www.romesnowboards.com) Agent. Or a K2 (http://www.k2snowboards.com) Darkstar

Hey Ryan,

Well it depends what kinda riding you want to do, how much you weigh, what level rider you are and how much you want to pay..
Longer boards will be harder to jib/jump with but are alot more stable when your going fast and won't chatter out when you lay down your euro carve.
a shorter board is easier to control and will have less "swing weight" so the board will spin easier if you like to huck.
stiffer boards will give you a better edge to edge response, and more edge hold, where as a softer board will do 2 things in a freestyle board it'll give you forgiveness where on a free ride board it'll let the nose float better in powder.

When you go to your local shop make sure the sales guy ask's you what size feet you have (board width is important) and how much you weigh most boards come with a weight chart these days and if it's not on the board the sales people should have a catalogue where they can check the info.

for someone with a size 8-10 foot, average weight 150-180
my three best freestlye picks for the 06/07would be (no perticular order) Burton twin 155
Option dufficy i think it's a 156
ROme agent 155

3 allaround boards
Burton Uninc ( iknow it's a freestyle board but it handels well everywhere MY PERSONAL PICK it's what I ride and most of my friends ride)
Burton custom ( new shape for 07 more twin a little soft though)
Nitro Team

3 freeride boards
nitro darkhorse ($$$$)
Option signature

Hope that helps I've been snowboarding for a long time and I would say have a pretty high knowledge of whats out there so if you have any more Questions let me know
P.S stay away from the boards made in China.. (Ride, K2, and a few others..find out where the board is made before you buy.)

hahah thanks t-ron and everyone else for their replies.

T-Ron: well actually this year is gona be my 5th year going snowboarding. my last trip, i practiced my carving and i started to learn how to extreme/deep carve (im more of a speed rider), and i started to learn how to do boxes and little 5 foot jumps. im 15 years old, weigh around 130-140 and my shoe size is 9. ive liked speed all the time, but now this year ima try practicing my jumps.

as you said, flexible boards are better for Terrain Parks (jumps, rails, boxes, etc.) and stiff boards with sharp edges are good for carving and ride smooth down the mountians. i was wondering is their any good boards that can work for both, freestyle and riding.

and one of my friends recommended me the Ride Theory 159, what are your thoughts that?

much thanks

i'd stay away from ride, It's made in China, now I'm not saying that stuff made in china sucks cause some of it is good, the thing is the factories in china are all new so the workers don't have the experience yet to make a good board especially compaired to the manufactuers in the USA, Canada, or in Europe where some of them have been making boards for over 20 years.

Check my allaround 3 boards for boards that will let you ride the whole mountain
but a quick recap the uninc 152-154
custom 154
nitro team 152
option dufficy 153 ( i know it was in the freestyle but it rides pretty good everywhere)
anyway let me know if you have anyother questions
wait for the transworld buyers guide shouldbe out soon that will help you chose as well. Read though don't just look at the pics.. the info they give on how to chose a board is the same thing i made all my new employees read at the shop i worked at
talk to you soon

I love snowboarding! Kind of suck though but I love it.

It's my first real serious year this year and I picked up a RIDE board and it's so damn heavy and it sucks I think.

I will get new gear next year. I like doing jumps more than flying down the hill.

Snowboarding is the shit... straight up... I used to live in bmore and could hardly ever board but i moved up to burlington, vt and i learned this year what snowboarding truely is... waste high powder, rock drops, real glades. amazing.

So yeah, board wise... id actually wait until next season and check with your local resorts to see when board companies come for demos... they will let you try as many boards as you can possible want to. Try em, big/small, wide/skinny, expensive/cheap... everything and see what feels best. Yeah, your going to pay more cause you'll want to go buy one after you try em but then you'll get a board you really like and one that fits you well(ive bought/been give some boards that are horrible)

Now, im about to secure an internship at burton for the next year or two so im going to go say pick up a burton board cause they know what they're doing and really take care of you as a customer... but i'll also say that there are plenty of companies that are just as good(-ride)...

make sure to get technine bindings and/or boots that are the best no questions asked. I also like lib tech. Check out my fav shop... they have some stuff on their website(shops better) http://www.802actionsports.com/

gluck with the decision and remember... no doo rags on the mountain
