its not on hypebeast for a reason... when did putting rhinestones on a guys clothes and tacky tatooesque images become cool... o right when jim jones did it.

Since when did tattoo-inspired clothing become "uncool". Mr. Cartoon is a tattoo artist and people camped out for his simpson vans [which were indeed on hypebeast]. And whats wrong with rhinestones on mens clothing...? I guess bape is for women too...
Ed Hardy and Christian Audiger are ugly as hell but that is a really good point. Never thought of it that way.

thought of it what way? i said tacky images... this brand has tacky generic tattoo images... tigers, dragons, roses, skulls, gun
if you can't tell the difference between what mr. cartoon does and what this guy does thats a shame. its like he has set images already and copys and paste them onto shirt templates
and with the whole bape thing... i feel the same way about bape items with rhinestones on it...and just because bape does it, its ok?

i think its ill...if ur a tattoo fanatic u know that all the tattoo art on the shirts, were lifted off real DEsigns that FAMOUS tattoo artist ED HARDY did... u only think they're generic because u see them everywhere
but the thing is, its this GUY that made those tattoos famouse...he's the white version of MR.CARTOON...lol
its pretty much like in 20 years if...CHristian audiger (the designer of von dutch, ed hardy, and his own brand) decided to make a MISTER CARTOON LINE...and used his tats on shirts...
i think its dope and unique!

Have you seen the CA shoes (http://www.christianaudigiershoes.com/)?
Some of those're pretty wild. The monogram
slip-ons look like they should come with a
velvet smoking jacket.

I used to share the same tee-shirt manufacturer with CA. I spent a lot of time there. The CA designers are some of the biggest bitters i have seen.
It doesn't cost that much to make a CA tee. Don't believe in hype.

This is very true.
I can make a shirt like that for the same price as a Diamond tee.
I think it looks nasty like true love false wackness.
Yup I can be a hater too.

You didn't say tacky in your original post... your exact word was "tattooesque"...so if Mr. Cartoon is a tattoo artist..then clothes and sneakers he creates must be "tattooesque"...am I correct?
And what's wrong with skulls, guns, roses, tigers, and dragons? I can name 4 or 5 streetwear brands that use all of those images just off the top of my head...Is it ok when they do it but not ed hardy or christian audigier?
And you also said "it's not on hypebeast for a reason" well my point was bape is on hypebeast...and they are well known for using rhinestones. Just because bape did it doesn't mean it's necessarily right, but most streetwear fans seem to think it's acceptable for bape to do it just for the sole reason that bape is a streetwear brand.
All tattoos are not created equal. A tattoo is not the same as any other, and a good artist's style speaks for itself. I think what people here are trying to express is taht CA seems a bit Ed Hardy-ish to say the least. Mr Cartoon is far from Ed Hardy-ish.
Oh and I disagree with your BAPE point too. I don't think they get much love on this forum and esp not the rhinestone shit.

Let me inform you of something...ed hardy and CA are made by the same person :). But since when was ed hardy the benchmark to compare brands to anyway?
But anyway...your jumping from one point to another. First you critisize CA for being to tattooesque, now your saying that it's ok to be tattooesque, but only Mr. Cartoon is allowed to pull inspiration from it.
And no, bape isn't the big trend in streetwear at the moment, but they are respected amongst the streetwear community. But since we're outlawing rhinestones I guess the "hype" hoody that ctothejl (a frequent hb poster) made last year was outrageous too.
Yeah...way to inform me of something everyone in the world already knew. I think you're purosefully misunderstanding everything I say so I'm pretty tempted not to bother setting you straight.
What I actually clearly said was that within the tattoo genre/world there are many different artists with many different styles. Just because ed hardy's style is completely played out in fashion doesn't mean that mr cartoon should stop working. in fact, he has his own much more gangster less fruity style and i like mr cartoon's work a lot whereas i think the ed hardy style of translating tattoo motifs into really outlandishly bad clothing is terribly wack and because CA is just like ed hardy, I think they're wack too.
And I disagree that BAPE is respected throughout the streetwear community. Nine or ten years ago, maybe. Now? Nope. Even the Clipse diss other rappers for being late in jumping on hte BAPE bandwagon...

mad played out. so last year. i have like 2 shirts, but can't even rock them anymore. it pretty much falls under the same category as true religion jeans, etc.. can't wear that shit anymore. i like the brand and all, but i think it was really hyped up by the celebs. Now if you wear it, it makes u look like you didn't get the memo and look reall delayed with your clothes.

From that statement alone, you obviously weren't aware that CA was founded by the same man who created ed hardy and von dutch.
Let's be realistic here...if someone posted a new CA hoody they would get flamed, yet many HB'ers have collections full of bape. Don't try to pull that argument off...And the clipse aren't critisizing people for wearing bape...there critisizing them for being late. The clipse are the second biggest bape dick riders in rap [second of course to pharrell], why would they diss it? And nine or ten years ago??? Most of the people on HB didn't even know what streetwear was in '97, let alone bape, an asian brand, with no flagship stores in America. More like 3 or 4 years ago...
That's all a matter of opinion...theres no way we can argue about the quality of CA's designs or wether or not they are "fruity", as you so elegantly put. And it was never my intention to argue about wether or not CA's designs were decent. I just thought that it needed to be said that streetwear heads tend to not like anything non-streetwear, and that the quality of their shirts is great.
I like how you think you know everything. It's hiliarious and not at all obnoxious. Um...I know people who work at CA so I definitely knew it was the same shit as Ed Hardy...stop acting like you have access to top secret info. Other than that...stop being mad that you like some stuff i think is corny...that's all there is to be said about that.

It's not for everyone.
But I'll tell you this...there shirts are made from the softest cotton you'll ever touch, and unlike streetwear brands the prints don't feel hard. Most streetwear companies' shirts feel like the print is "on top of" the shirt rather than being a part of it.
But the only point I was trying to make was that streetwear heads don't respect any other form of clothing other then streetwear.
As for the quality of the shirt?
I went to a party yesterday and about 10 dudes were wearing
these shirts. I asked some jock with spikey hair and black flys on about his tee so I could get a better look. It was pretty much the same quality
as a AAA shirt but washed a few times to make it soft. The print was a regular tonal discharged all over belt print with a waterbased/discharged
colorful tattooed arms on the front.
It also had some large text print in foil on the back.
To make a shirt like this would cost about 7-8 bucks tops + it was disgusting.

i love the fact that you just put your profit margin out there for everybody to see, knowing full well it's not going to affect your business whatsoever.
nick i respect what you do, ie. put thought into your designs but, when you said "99% of the people that wear diamond are skaters"....man, i lost some for you. do you think that all the people that line up for a t-shirt that you announce to hypebeast 3 months (being generous) in advance to create hype are there to buy a skateboarding tee? come on...
don't get me wrong, no hate at all. i know exactly what you're doing and why you're doing it, you're profiting financially while still being a core skate brand. let's hope you don't turn out like supreme. i just think you were smoking crack when you said that, or were just being overly defensive about catering to the beasts.

99% is not that far off from being accurate.

i want to believe you but i dont.
dude, you have a flagship store.
i can't think of one of my skater friends who wear any diamond stuff.
to them it would be like walking around wearing a doh-doh shirt.
question:
did you think it might be a bad move to put out that "if you dont skate you cant relate" shirt, considering that 99% of the people who wear your stuff can't kickflip?
