Are you jumping straight up? Or forward?
There was an old thread.. so I merged them..

I think people get a little messed up with the whole "drag your foot up" thing. Don't try too hard to drag, just pop the tail, jump and LIFT YOUR LEGS UP, level them out in midair and then just put your feet down above the bolts (hopefully). The dragging with happen automatically, if you try and drag you end up pushing the board away or too far foreward. Same goes for kick/heel flips.
There's really only one way to learn, and thats by trying it over and over.
It's like riding a bike, its a feeling you need for yourself, and no amount of explanation can really make you understand. I found it easier (if i remember correctly) learning to ollie up curbs and not just on flat ground. Make sure you are moving and not standing still. Oh, and stay over the board.

Independent makes the best trucks period.
I've ridden ventures, orion, krux, etc etc and I always end up giving them away and putting indy's back on. Theres a reason the team is 60+ deep.
Question: Would you rather have risers on or off?
I just thought about this because I've noticed most ppl use risers. Do they really make that much of a difference?

Depends on wheel/truck size.
I have 56's and loose trucks, I have risers on because I get some nasty wheel bite sometimes. Although on <54cm wheels I dont see a need for them.
Alright thanks for the info.

Damn reading this thread brings back memories, i used to Stick to ONLY using INDEPENDENT Trucks, Platinum Boards (for the pop and hard wood), Spitfire Wheels, then chuck on some ultra thin risers and use Shorty Bolts and Paul Jessop Grip since black magic grip back in the day used to rip any shoe apart within a few days...
I got a question though, do you guys who skate just grip your board normally or do you cut shit out of it and/ or do designs with it???
P.S i haven't skated in over 8 Years now... so sorry if i seem extremely out dated...

Okay not very updated with Boards, but i used to ride Platinum boards or Zoo York, for the Pop, but if your new and want a slightly lighter board, go with Girl Decks + Venture Trucks (they last long and are reasonably light)
If you want a more solid set up, go for some Independent Trucks, fucking industructable...
As for the grinding part, i used to use Surf Boarders "Sex Wax" on ledges to help make it slightly easier to grind...
But you might want to wait for some one who is actually still skating to answer your questions since as i said before, its been about 8 years since i last skated...

Don't know if this still applies today with all the new companies out there, but i rmb when i was still skating, Girl / Chocolate Decks used to be some of the lightest decks available, other wise check out some of the Blank decks you can get in shops they can also be quite light as well...

sorry to threadjack, but who in here lives in areas where it gets preety cold in the right season? do you just skate with your coat on or with a lot of thin layers? i do layers cuz coats are too heavy for me, reduce my range of motion and i sweat easy, but then i stop for a few seconds to catch my breath and boom, im sneezin and stuff...so yea...

Bam used to be really good for the time, but his skating took a back seat to his cky videos and then the whole Jackass thing.
Mike Vallely was a really good back in the late 80's when the hand plant craze was going on in street skating and then he faded away and then came back in the late 90's and then blew up due to appearances in Bam's Cky videos.
Also Element promotes these two guys A LOT.
