LRG had a whole section dedicated to them at Beverly Center Bloomingdales
about 3-4 years ago. LRG has been at most major department stores as well as every mom and pops hip hop clothing store across the country..... They are the biggest urban brand around.

Actually, like said earlier, not every region's Macys carried LRG. My local Macys just started carrying LRG for the first time approx. 1 month ago. So yes, it IS new to people, depending on where you live.

Who really cares? Wear what you like. Just because brand x is sold at store x doesn't mean anything. If you don't buy the clothes because you don't like the design or brand, thats cool. If you don't buy them because of where they are sold at, you are loser.

these companys are for people who want a shirt that is exclusive,. rare, and of high quality too.
Hell if we didnt care where we got out clothes from we would do ALL our shopping at big popular chain stores and wear the same clothes that everyone else had,... but we dont cause we want our stuff exclusive
example,.
that new hundreds skull logo tee that is like 30 dollars on digital gravel,
Anyone , almost anywhere can go out to any "rock and roll" store or band t shirt store, or any wall-mart, target etc and buy a cheap 10 dollar shirt with a skull on it but people pay more because of the company, the brand management, the exclusivity , the fact that they know that only a small amount of t shirts were made etc.

It's interesting to see how Geoffrey Moores theory of the life-cycle of a technology based new product applies almost perfectly to LRG as a company.
First they started out with just samples and finally got a few larger runs of gear made, which is basically the first and second step of the theory/model.
Then they managed to avoid falling into the chasm where most of the companies who kept their business exclusive and very limited lie today and started to go big.
They also managed to keep their position on the streetwear market for a few years and gather recognizion with advertising. Those years could be compared to the bowling alley section of the theory where the companies have to make the transition from being small and exclusive in to a more mass-production based approach.
There is even a real hype section - the dead serious hoodies - which perfectly aligns with the tornado section of the technology adoption life cycle. On the extended version of the theory there are remarks of the fact that pumping more and more of the hyped item out to the market is the most profitable way to go through that phase.
And now they are literally on the main street. And most hypebeasters already think that they already are on the right end of the whole thing.
If you're not familiar with the theory, it can be seen here: http://www.w3.org/DesignIssues/diagrams/Moore/IMG_1552_comp.jpg

Does the fact that the kids who founded LRG have completely lost control of their company to a bunch of rich corporate big money types also factor into this guy's theory?

what the fuck is this? thanks for the economics lesson captain obvious
ppl's ignorance bugs me .. u cant expect l-r-g to stay huddles in a shacky warehouse forever.. u have to expand.. any streetwear company would love to be on there level.. what is ppls defintion of sold out? yea they have there tacky peices like any company .. but they still got heat and they still set or come out with shit that are trends .. they were one the whole plaid thing along time ago b4 al lthe streetwear companys did it this spring like the hundreds... they was on the native influenced shti b4 10 deep did anyhting liek that... they ere doin leathers b4 anybody else was.. they had there all over prints b4 the majority of the streetbrands did... i just realized this now ... just lookin back on some of there peices i was a big fan of them back in the day i still am cuz they use the earth and shit and inspiration i think thats coool... but very silently they have been doin things b4 anybody else .. NOT evreything but alot of shit that is hot now they already fuked with like a year + ago
i always endup ranting about l-r-g but i hate kats ignorance to hate on ppl tryna be successful .. ur fav. company would give a leg to be sold wide spread like that .. its no fun being stretched thing at ur resources and not being able to meet ur demand for ur products cuz u jsut dont have the resources to do it.. 10 deep was in that shoe last year.. kats were pheinin for there shit and they coudlnt keep up.. they was streatched thin and could not take oppurtunitys to grow .. im guessin they fixed that now ..but why hate?
just like when underground rappers blow up.. kats hate.. they want them to be broke and in there basment forever so they feel more attached ot them then the glamour top 10 rapper who u couldnt even sniff his shit if u tried

picnic said it best on page 2 of this topic...
There is no problem with going massmarket... but you must understand what that does to your brand... Hybe beasters are usually down with underground shit, that is just dope and exlusive! When you go mass market you lose the undergroundd following... nothing wrong with it but its just a fact..

let's think outside the box
of course the majority of us "think alike" on this message board.......hence, we are at a site called hypebeast.com.........
what about the people who think good fashion can ONLY be bought at the mall or department stores?????? they probably think we are wasting our money on underground clothing mass produced at factories in SE asia..........that the "quality" of the clothes we buy is inferior to theirs.......the grass roots companies sold at macy's now are better made than the "cheap" designs we knew and wore about 7-8 years ago
two-way street........no right, no wrong........this is america.........it is impossible to please everyone
i compare streetwear to the indi-music culture...........i know some people who HATE artists who sell out to mainstream..........once they hear a band on the radio, KIIS-FM, play at the house of blues...........they disown them and try and find the next up and coming artist to follow
everyone is trying to get famous........to be loved.........to be heard.........to make money..........and most importantly, to please their fans
yet fans are the first ones to turn their back on them
never ending cycle.........*shrug*

if you think paying 30 dollars for a hundreds shirt is paying " more " then you are BROKE, cuz 30 is as cheap as it gets in this game.
