Since I don't really pay attention to many other "streetwear" brands but my own, I have a question about Triumvir. All I've ever seen from them is that Stormtrooper head logo. Yo how are these guys NOT getting sued for that shit?? Anybody??

probably because they're not big enough... if they had exposure to point were someone from the Star Wars legal team saw it you better believe they'd have a lawsuit pending right now.
I think the Mao shit is better than the star wars stuff.

Not paying attention is the single biggest mistake you can ever make when it comes to this.

You're right Mike.
if you're not a corporate company/brand no one will bother touching you. legal fees itself is too much. Just ask Mishka or LMAC they do shit load of copyrighted material.. there are so many other indy brands that do the same.. it's all about the jacks and flips.Another i guess is there's no one to point the finger too.

Copyrighted material is not protected against parody, but parodying something doesn't protect you from a lawsuit.

single biggest mistake!? i dont understand how not paying attention to a crappy, unoriginal brand can be the biggest mistake ever? i think the biggest mistake would be to wear such garbage.
Paying attention to only your brand he means. ^

I don't think Mike meant it in that context. I think what he meant is that if you run a line, it is a good thing to watch what your competitors or others are doing. You can't really go blind into this industry without peeping "whats up".

Ok, lemme correct myself before I get crucified even more by you fuckers. I love you guys, but goddamn!
I DO pay attention, but I don't go deep into brands that I don't like the looks of. Why would I get deeper into them? The thing I've seen the most associated with them is a jacked picture with some rainbow camo in it. I'm just wondering cuz there was a few times I wanted to use things in my design that I figured I'd get sued for, but I guess not? Whatever. Just wondering.

they havent gotten sued because
1) they're small and there's no real reason to go after them financially.. in fact, the people that would make a decision to sue probably havent ever seen the shirt.
2) it's original artwork.

Yeah basically what Andrew said, its original artwork. And the Stormtrooper mask aint no trademark anyways. Designs represent a company that puts it out. CLONE SOLDIERS? I dont understand what the Stormtrooper image is suppose to stand for anyways. Personally I would of went with Boba Fett, OG pimp who actually boned Leia behind the scenes of episode 6. CHEA!

Surely if they were big enough to attract attention by the Lucas people, or Fox, then there would be a cease and desist. Notice how the bigger a company gets, the less they have to do with other people's properties or likenesses. Too much liability. For smaller groups, its all fun as long as its off the radar.

Look, Andrew's right to a point. Its really not financially viable for Fox or Lucas to sue Triumvir, but a cease and desist would be more suited. As far as "original artwork" goes, it doesnt matter. The likeness to the Star Wars brand is too freaking similar. Its a fucking stormtrooper. It doesnt matter if its "original" because of their interpretation of the art. the likeness is too similar. Its infringement.
The real reason nothing is happening to them, is from a legal, brand integrity standpoint, Triumvir isnt do anything to dilute or negatively impact the Star Wars brand. Unless, for some fucked up reason the legal teams at the companies that own rights to the brand, see Triumvir as diluting the Star Wars property, then they'll take legal action.
Believe me, seriously, that legal teams all over the corporate world scour the net, in forums especially, to see what their brands and properties are up to. That means they will, know, or do know about this design, it jsut doesnt fall under they're category of taking legal action.
