The surrounding Los Angeles area is very expensive. I'd suggest moving up North for cheaper living, but if you want to stay in the South I hear the Fullerton area is pretty cheap which is only 15 minutes away from downtown LA. Just make sure you stay away from the Riverside area.

I want to be away from the city actually, and away from problems because I'm going to be living with wifey, and I don't want her to have to be involved in any shit. I heard OC was cheap before, but I wasn't sure, but I have seen pics of it, and it looks beautiful there.

Considering I'm from NYC, you got to know what cheap is in my terms.

Here it's like $800+ for a small ass studio apartment, feel me? I just need a studio or a 1 bedroom, prices would help!

Sounds good for my woman, because she'll be coming from Japan, I'd rather be close to her type of shit.

I was going to stay in Japan, but I can't speak it yet, so that's a no go.

i was in the same boat, started taking mad classes and practicing alot, so im going ot be permanently out there come winter. i want to get better at writing it though, for work crap.

back to o.c stuff, yeh both have a nice sized japanese community, good shopping, and if you get bored everything is more or less an hour away (beach, snow, desert, downtown l.a,etc etc).

about safety shit, nyc vs o.c, id be more worried about someone crashing into me while driving than someone breaking into my place or anything crazy like that.

How are you staying in Japan, you got a work visa or some shit? I might just marry my woman (because I love her,) so I supposed we could stay out there, but it's just the language barrier. How old are you? It's hard to learn a language when you're older, and I be forgetting mad shit even though half my friends are Japanese LOL.

I'm moving to burbank in 3 months. The rent is cheap and the distance from LA is minimal. Great place to live if you are planning on doing something related to the entertainment industry

orange county covers a big span of cities. You have Costa mesa, tustin, irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach just to name a few. Some areas are definitely cheaper, but overall its definitely not cheap. Dont think you will be able to find a studio apartment for under $900-$1000. It is a great place to live though. Let me know what areas you are thinking of and I can offer more of information.

orange county has no cities proper. they're trying to develop a section of costa mesa, known as 'sobeca' and it will be an arts/retail/culture/blablah hub.

downtown fullerton and downtown santa ana are city-like, with the latter being more very cheap compared to the rest of OC.

Whatever you do, stay out of irvine. the whole city was planned by the irvine company and there is nothing happening there except for uci and I think the water park is still open?

Why not move to long beach. I know a lot of people who have studios 4 blocks from the beach that are like 600 bucks. You got a city of about 1 million right on the biggest west coast port in the US with a newly revamped and revitalized downtown area with shops, restaraunts, bars, women, sneakers, anything you want. there's lots of up-and-coming artists, musicians, designers - you name it that call long beach home.

LB is not OC, but it borders it to the north and is about 20 minutes from downtown LA.

Since youre an NYC youth, I doubt you have a drivers license. Southern California is impossible without a car.

You should really look into moving to Portland, OR though. The place is dirt cheap and you can get around without a car. Seattle and San Francisco too, but both of those places are expensive, especially SF.

I was gonna go to UC Irvine but then changed my mine since I missed out on the dorm cuz I sent my application too late and it was hella expensive to rent an apartment nearby. Its like 1200/month for 1 bedroom apt. I wanted to be close to the university though so I guess it also depends on location.

You should really look into moving to Portland, OR though.

That place really has exploded over the past few years. I went over the summer to visit some friends, and was pleasantly surprised. One of the few places in the country outside of the Tri-State area I can see myself living in.

Minus out the culture and throw in surburbia and you have the Antelope Valley.

I stay out in Whittier when I'm with my dad. It's about 20 minutes from Orange County. If you want to know some stuff about what its like , drop me a PM

Cheers

if you are set on so cal, i would suggest Costa Mesa (like bnj said nice area, big japanese community 5 min from the beach), Cerritos/los alamitos (another nice area between costa mesa and long beach, closer to LA by 15 minutes than CM, big fillipino community), fullerton (colleges, boutiques and bars), downtown santa ana (loft apartments, cheap rent, artist community, 5 minutes from costa mesa, 10 from the beach, 45 minutes to downtown with normal traffic, and you can take a train into LA), Anaheim (a bunch of urban development projects going up around disneyland, very policed in that corridor so its quiet), Long Beach downtown (TONS of apartments, lots of shit to do, good stores, actual downtown feel, and not tooo expensive)....in LA, burbank is cool, downtown LA has some decent lofts still, west hollywood is pretty crime free and rent isnt atrocious. any of the cities around pasadena are good but rent can get up there.....

DO NOT move to the antelope valley. its shit ass desert and the traffic is as bad as getting into LA from OC.....just dont even consider it.
