Me and Sub have talked about it a bit.But what do you guys do to get in shape for the summer? I wanted to drop a few pounds and put on some muscle before the summer months come but im picky as hell about what i eat. What i was doing was rougly 200 sit ups a night and since im on the computer nearly the whole day i just lift weights while sitting down at the computer which really adds up to alot of reps with a 20 pound weight. For food i know you have to eat good and all but im too picky. So ive been testing out this Ramen noodle thing eating that, and only that 3 times a day.I dont know if it will work but meh.If you guys got any other ideas drop em here.Mainly bout the food or what i could eat that would be okay to help me lose weight.

im really into bodybuilding and such, and ur potential ramen noodle diet is not a good idea. one, you are hardly getting any protein, and without sufficient protein consumption your diet will attack any lean muscle mass you have, then go after fat mass. I would suggest you try a high protein diet with limited carbs (protein shakes are a must on a high protein diet).

ramen has like 400 times the sodium of normal food.

TRIMSPA BABY!! neways just eat healthy n hit the gym, try to avoid things full of carbs and eat foods high in protein such as fish, steak and chicken. for me i try to eat healthy during the week and on the weekends i just eat whatever. i try to go to the gym 5 days a week- mon-bis and tris, tue-shoulders and lats, wed- cardio,thur-chest, fri-legs and back. i like to drink a protein shake in the morning, one after workin out and one before bed, i also take creatine after workin out. in the mornin i take a multivitamin and omega 3 pills. all this may be a little excessive for what you want to achieve, but if ur looking for a 6 pack u dont need to be doin 200 sit ups every night, try doin cardio 3 times a week one day do sit ups and the other days ride the bike or run on a treadmill etc and dont just do regular sit ups do incline sit ups and even sit ups on ur side to work ur obliques. hope sumpthin helps

How long is each gym session? and yeah im looking for a 6pack but i dont do sit ups anymore really i use tthis ablounge i ordered off tv XD it seems to work really good i really feel it in the abdominal area after about 20 of them. And i do 200 of them.and how many meals, and about how big a day would you suggest? and do you know how long it would be to see results?
Hendriks

^ you wont see results like the next day, it takes time to tone your body. You should stick to regular sit-ups though no machine is better than the natural.as for taking creatine, i would stay away from that because it can do damage to your liver if consumed regularly for a long period of time.also, if u want to work your abs, do simple things like lying on your back and holding your feet straight out in front of you in the air for as long as you can, then rest for a minute and do it again, u can really feel it in your abs.
ToddeFresh
04-08-2006, 01:59 AM
hmm i have never heard of creatine in neway adversely effecting your liver. the liver naturally produces creatine in small amounts. it can also be found in meat. i have heard that it can cause problems with your kidneys but there have been several reports which refute these claims and there are no negative side effects in long term users. nevertheless always do research and be careful of what you put in your body.
but hes right you wont see nething overnight and im sure ur well aware of that. for me i usually go for 45 mins to an hour give or take. if you follow a good diet and consume lots of protein(ruffly 1 and a half grams per pound of body weight) and dont over work your body you should see some results fairly quickly, within a couple weeks just stick with it and eventually it will pay off. also keep a daily log of what excercises your doin and how much weight your lifting its a good way to keep track of your progress.

I tend to have the problem with my clothes fitting but I am never going to stop working out. It is a good stress relief, I am currently 250 right now and I plan to be 220-225 by summer time, so I suggest moderate cardio integrated with your weight trainng, and definitley get a lot of protein. Easy on the ramen. That shit will kill YOU! somebody else said it, but i have to repeat. that shit has like 900 mg of sodium. in a fucking 4.5 x 4.5 brick of noodles? fucking ridiculous.

Good thread. Few questions.
I'm trying to lose a few pounds from my stomach. I have a little bit of a gut when I sit down. I'm about 136 pounds and about 5'5. I've given up soda because it's terribly bad for you. The thing is, what should I replace it with? Like, what should I drink? I know the obvious answer is water but ugh, i can't stand the taste...or lack of taste of it. I've been trying that Propel Fitness Water by Gatorade, but is that a good substitution? What exactly is cardio? I'm not trying to lift weights or any of the sort, I just want to lose my gut (have a flat stomach) and possibly some well defined abs. What should I eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner? After what time should I NOT eat?
Please help me out. Thanks!

how cute i didn't know guys traded diet tips =x anyway as far as eating goes...i can't really do a full blown diet, lately i've just been trying to eat smaller portions and not have many snacks at night...usually i cut out the soda and drink iced tea don't know if thats any better and have been trying to include some more water in my diet...
as far as working out for cardio i like cycling it's easier for me to stay motivated and really gives you a full body work out, other than that i do different exercises with & without weights to sculpt my arms, abs n legs

To get fit i do alot of bike riding, i remeber i rode almost everyday about 17 miles for 6 weeks (summer holidays) and i lost 2 stone, and then to get abs etc just do alot of sit ups, if ure looking to just mainly put on muscle then i sugests eating alot of protien, also my friend is trying eating 6 meals a day wich contain high levels of protien e.g tuna etc and he is finding that it is realy working well.
Hope that helps

i got some tips. i hate running, but here is what is good. run as hard as you can for as long as you can. then when you can't go no more, walk for like 30 seconds and then do it again. do this as many times as you can before you are like gonna pass out and do this as many days a week as you can and ur golden.
also, i use 8 minute abs, i know it sounds dumb but i downloaded it off of boxden and it really works like it's perfect and u can do it everynight before you go to bed.
taking ephedrine is great too, it makes it so that you hit the body temp where you burn calories faster but like it only takes u a few minutes to get to that temp. i take it an hour and a half before i work out and i also put some powder stuff in a diet drink and down that an hour and a half before i work out also. shits crack. i trippled by gains yesterday.
here's a great site to check out, this shit all works, i used to take creatine but they are right it has bad long term effects.
here's the stuff i reccomend and it's cheap:
http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=2521
http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=1593&osCsid=b97fecb4e03fc2bcdc128e9ffe490864
http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=2328&osCsid=b97fecb4e03fc2bcdc128e9ffe490864
these three work and i highly reccomend. i have been taking for over 3 years so you can trust me that it won't f u up, just drink lots of water.

I use to swim like 6 days a week and only ate fruits, vegetables and steak or chicken at night. I got mad ripped and my stomach got super flat. if you don't like running much i suggest you try swimmin about 20 laps a day. oh yea and drink water. if you want mad diesel you should lift weights as well.

how bout to gain weight? any tips...?
SBairbape1'sIV
05-02-2006, 05:40 AM
This is what I did..i'm not saying anybody try it but it damn sure helped me..and plus u gotta remember that everbody body is not the same so different methods work for different bodys
I still eat a tad bit junk food..matter fact I eat alot of junk food and chicken..I also eat food right before i'm going to sleep late at night..penut butter helps like a mothafucka..I just use to get a spoon and eat some penut butter...
I workout before I go to sleep..and then when I wake up....
My Workout plan:
Do a 100 push ups(sometimes I might over doit and my body wont allow me to do a 100 but I know that's my muscles working)
Do about 70 sit ups
work out about 10 mins using a 20lb dumbell
and drink shit load of water while i'm working out..I don't drink as much water as I should but when i'm working out I stock up on water..it taste much better when you feel like ur running out of energy
and if I got some equipment while i'm at my parents house..I just use my pops weights..and just benchpress 60 times with about 160lbs or more.. do a couple of sqauts..I'm good to go
I also know that just drinking regular shakes are good for you..but those protien shakes help u see results wayyyy faster..I haven't got a chance to use any but I'm going to start..
I know my workout plan had me seeing results the 2nd week..and I mean noticable results..
oh and not to mention my job requiers picking up heavy boxes and shit all day so i'm gaining muslce from that as well..
I hate the taste of water and pretty much anything good for you. I recently noticed I drank so much coke so frequently I was dependant on the caffeine. I got a bad headache if I didn't have my coke by a certain time. I'll never stop eating junk food but could possibly give up soda. I'm getting a little bigger around the gut when I sit down like Liquid Swords, but I can still see ribs when I stand up. I weigh about 146 pounds and I'm like 6ft. I'm probably going to die before all of you...with a coke one hand and some onion rings in the other.

hahaha i love coke, when i was in school it was pretty much all i drank, i noticed if i went a day without drinkin it i would also get bad headaches, even if i drank like other types of pop instead of coke, id still get massive headaches for real theres something in there that there not telling you

is diet coke any better than regular coke?
as far as my workout goes, i eat 3 meals a day if not more, but never before bed. i eat and wait 3-4 hours before going to bed. i try to go to the gym every day and i usually run for good 30 - 35 mins, then i do some weightlifting but i don't try to lift more than i need to because i don't want to get huge, i just want to stay in shape.
lots of water and fruits instead of munching on junk food.
also, i wear a garbage bag under my shirt, then i top it off with another shirt and a hoodie when i jog so i would sweat twice as more.
thinking about taking muay thai in the summer.

ramen noodles 3 times a day.. is not too good for u.. TOO much sodium.. What ur aim is for a day is... 1 protien per pound and 2 carbs per pound .. and stay away from as much calories and fat grams as possible.. Thats the diet i take.. to bulk up.. WORKS gl
i been plannin on gettin in better shape during the summer too but work and school got me busy. im definitely going to start late july early august though.
like some people say eat a lot of protein chicken, steak, tuna & fishes (best source: low fat, high protein), bread, beef, eggs (i like them boiled for breakfast). u want to eat 1gm of protein for 1lb of body weight daily but its okay to eat half sometimes if you cant make the count. just eating a lot of protein is what counts.
you as well want to get some carbos, veggies, and fruits into the system as well.
breakfasts are the most important meals. eat 90 minutes or around there before and after an hour or two of workout. 6 decent smaller meals instead of 3 big meals a day.
work out different body parts and make the muscles guess the routine variation. apply more effort as you progress.
protein shakes are okay and protein bars but dont stay on like creatine for a long period of time. just eat what you know is healthy and balance your diet appropriately.
that's all i know from the top of the dome.
i found this site very useful as a guide on building muscle mass healthy if you are really interested.... http://www.gain-weight-muscle-fast.com/

whats the point of getting "toned" when there is nothing there to reveal? build your body up first before you cut into your non exsistant physique.

Running miles every night helped me out these past few weeks.
But I can't seem to get the six-pack I want. Anybody have any six-pack aimed exercises that are productive and show results quickly?
(Of course, I'm not asking for a six-pack within days.)
DIET!!..ive been dieting for about 4 months now and i shed most of the little fat that i had on my stomach..now my abs are visable...i went from 175 to 163..i dont really like feeling so slim but just seeing my abs is worth it..i can still max 275 so its all good..
and for whoever wanted to get toned..you dont have to build up muscle first then cut it..just go to the gym and the muscle will come while your getting toned..

Eating ramen 3 times a day is like eating a Mcdonalds meal three times a day.
Here are some tips to losing weight WITHOUT exercising:
1. Drink as much water as possible. Just constantly sip on some water throughout the entire day. I'd allow some juice here and there but throw any ideas of drinking coke out the window. That shit kills you.
2. Eat 6 meals a day. That's right SIX. Spread it out evenly throughout the day. Eat every 2 hours-ish. Only eat to you are SATISFIED and not FULL. This way you'll never be hungry throughout the day, but also never be full. No fried foods. No chips/cookies/icecream. Look for things high in protein/fiber/vitamins. Only take enough carbs for enough energy to get through your day. Snack on fruit/yogurt/smoothies/nuts (not from jamba juice, they're not that healthy at all).
3. Don't eat past 7 PM.
4. Sleep early so you don't have to battle cravings every 30 minutes.
5. Wake up early and eat a good breakfast. Dinner every night should be your smallest meal.
Do this everyday consistently and you'll start seeing results within a week. Allow yourself a few "cheat meals" or you'll go crazy craving certain things. After you get past the first couple weeks, everything becomes habit and after you see results it'll only make you want to continue this. You wake up every morning feeling alot better too.
For faster results add cardio exercises. Search HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) on google.

I'm gonna follow kidkorea's advice, along with my swim coach's, and see how far I can get. I've already quit drinking juices, including OJ and AJ. It's only milk and water now, 4 and 8 glasses, respectively.
Did you feel/see a difference after you gave up juice.
I stopped drinking soda and I'm gonna try to give up juices and mainly drink Water and WU-Yi tea.

i have a friend who was skinny throughout HS and started lifting during college... he was still skinny but had good definition (nomo)... anyway didnt see him for a while and now he's gotten bigger... he said that the lifting helped, but he essentially had to eat his way to his size... instead of doing the 6 meal plan ur friend should do the 3 big meals, and preferably the last one should be late (around 9-10) so that the food doesnt break down so quickly as he sleeps

got any tips for gaining weight muscle?
I went on this crazy protein shake diet during high school. Lost alot of weight and bulked up immensely. It wasn't really healthy though but it did get me really cut up:
1. Woke up early for a run before school and had a protein shake for breakfast.
2. For lunch I would eat 2 slices of whole wheat bread with some turkey.
3. Dinner was a protein shake after an hour or two at the gym lifting heavy weights.
Everyday I would offcycle heavy weights and light weights. Ex: Monday - Heavy weights/less reps, Tuesday - light weights/more reps. The heavy weights bulked me up and the light weights got my muscles cut up real quick.
Throughout the day you can munch on some fruit, yogurt, health bars, and nuts. But again this is more of a like crash diet, build mass and get cut kinda thing. Overall you will lose alot of fat and get a nice body but health wise it isn't good at all. I did this for about 3 months straight and couldn't take eating protein shakes for breakfast/dinner everyday and stopped.

Oh and the most important thing is that you gotta keep at this consistently for at least 2 months. You can't go hardcore during the weekdays and then binge drink and binge eat every weekend...it just won't work. Go hardcore for a few weeks, you'll see amazing results, and the results will then motivate you to keep going. I got ripped for about maybe 5 or 6 months of hard work. I got decently cut and muscly after about 3 months. Everything failed when I got a girlfriend :(

^cosign on the consistency part... i didn't get overly cut, but i got pretty strong and big after 3 months of diet (slim fast shakes and most salmon at night) and lifting/cardio... lost at least 30lbs of fat... then i started going out more to bars which lead to the drinking/eating late (damn you gray's papaya)... but now ive calmed down with that and fixing up a new routine/diet

Co-sign. I can feel and see part of the abs forming.
kidkorea sounds on point, though.
Look up HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)
Only with a good diet and good cardio will you start losing weight which will lead to more abs showing. You can do a million situps a night and it wouldn't matter if you had a small pouch over your abs haha.
Good diet + excercise and you'll look better but most importantly feel better.
Motivation: My friend went through alot of depression issues and he has really bad acne. He went on a diet similiar to mine but he cut out all red meat. His face is clean as fuck now and he wakes up every morning feeling HAPPY he said. A healthy living style really affects everything.

Most of them are not healthy for you, they have tons of sugar and other processed ingredients.
If he's skinny he needs to eat. If he says he's eating, tell him to eat more. It's not that hard to fit in 4000 calories a day if you try hard enough.

I just lost 5 pounds over the past 2 weeks. I started college this year and its been fucking up my routines. So I switched/fixed it up since I have a better schedule this semester. First I fixed up my diet and tried to stick to a strict diet plan for a week so I could get used to it. (Eating small meals frequently, eating good choices) I lift 2x a week and do cardio 4x a week. (Timed miles, uphill sprints, skipping rope for 30 minutes, 8 to 10 2-3 minute shadow boxing rounds) I didn't really lose much muscle so I'm just trying to cut all the fat that I gained after a year of doing nothing. 10-15 more pounds and I'll be pretty cut up again.

I usually hit the gym 3 times a week, but do cardio on wednesdays. I try to switch it up at the gym between arms, core, legs etc. And my cardio usually consits of running at a steady pace for about 30 minutes and then trying to pick it up faster for the last ten. I dont drink soda anymore because I was drinking it wayy too much, and I try to keep my eating habits as healthy as I can, sometimes I cant resist Chipotle though. No fast food, try to keep as much protein in and I drink 6 cups/bottles/glasses of water a day. I rarely ever have protein shakes but I want to start taking those.
I am considering taking a supplement called Tren (Trin sp?) my friend is on it and he has literally gained 25 lbs. of muscle. He was smaller to begin with though, I am about 185 right now and hope to lose more fat and replace with muscle. Anyone had experience with Tren products or MMA products I heard those are supposed to be really close, also TT40.
For myself im trying to gain weight..What should my normal meals consist..I know High protein but what exactly? also is it ok to take Whey protein with no weight lifting?
creatine and a lot of workout . plus , running everyday and play soccer . hope it works , but if it does'nt ... no problem , I'm a skinny/athletic guy , don't need that much to get in shape for summer

For myself im trying to gain weight..What should my normal meals consist..I know High protein but what exactly? also is it ok to take Whey protein with no weight lifting?
Yes keep your protien up but just eat alot. Find out what your maintenace calories are and eat atleast 500 a day above that. Lots of good carbs, yams sweet potatoes, oatmeal. Chicken, Steak is good becuase it releases test in your system. And good fats, natural peanut butter, avacodoes , almonds etc. More less just stuff your face. And eat throughout the day, try and eat atleast 6-7 times a day.

track team ftw lol, but you gotta get rid of all the junk food
our practices usually last 2-3 hours, first we do 3 warm up laps, then stretches, then drills (lunges, high knees, kick out, high knee skips, etc.) then we usually take a lap and then separate into sprinters, long distance, hurtlers, jumpers, and such. after those sessions we usually do a cooldown mile, more stretches and then some push ups and sit ups (not too many just 25 of each) then pratice is over and they tell us to do push ups and sit ups at home
all of this 4 times a week cuz one day a week is meets =P

I've been eating better really. No walking/riding a bike since weather here in Boston has been shitty. 2 cups of Lipton green tea daily, and staying under 1,700 calories a day is all I need. Also nothing to eat after 9pm, and drinking water like a mad man. 8)

Cut out most all carbs except some complex carbs before a workout and a little bit of simple carbs in the AM. 200 grams of protein a day. 1 gallon of water.
Just went from a size 38 pant down to a size 34!!!!!
I want to get to crackhead status(215 6'1", 5% bodyfat by end of June)

^^You're scrawny as hell if that's you're real size. Why would you need to get to a size 28, you need to fit in your sister's jeans or something? If anything, I'd start working out and eating some protein, sounds like you're a stick.

Okay, so I started a cycle of Tren and MMA3. Both work well. Gained 6 pounds of musccle in a little over 2 weeks, and the cycle is 8 weeks long.

Are there any setbacks or gains when using a curled barbell as opposed to using the straight one?

What would a good diet be without workout to help flatten a stomach?
^ Your gonna have to workout to flatten a stomach, unless you go on a self-starvation diet.

green tea makes your teeth yellow, ya diggg
i have chinese relatives; trust me i know
but on the really dilly, just drink tea only and my thighs will become lady-like??
Nope.
Run, jog, walk, or cycle... and do squats (low weights, more reps), it'll build muscle and help burn your thigh fat. Also, cut back on sugar.
I'm having a hard time to get in shape....my waist line is 29 and I want to have at least 26inches...thats not a good idea to eat..ramen noodles for 3x a day...noodles usually have wax on it especially easy cook noodles. I gain few pounds and I'm planning to get in shape by this month. I'm giving myself 1 month to be sexy again. :)

and how do i increase my metabolism? i think thats the reason why the fat keeps sticking on to me + lack of exercise
Ohsnap....That's part of the beauty/dilemma of working out. Working out makes you add muscle mass, which in turn increases your resting metabolic rate and oxygen intake. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body will naturally burn while doing nothing. Conversely, the less muscle you have, the more likely your body is to hold onto all the calories you eat and make you naturally more of a lazy fat@ss (scientifically speaking)
urban.outwitter...the gains/setbacks with different grip barbells are user specific. Each different grip will hit a slightly different part(head) of the muscle, so a persons gains with a certain grip depend on the natural strengths/weaknesses of their body. An advantage of non-straight bars tho, is that they can be less likely to damage your wrists.
dunkpunk....Easiest way to add size/muscle (IMHO), is to eat more than you feel you need any time you feel up to it (not necessarily limited to when you're hungry). If you're naturally slim built, there's absolutely no way your gonna put on weight without taking in a bunch of extra calories. As for a simple workout plan...like someone said, pushups and pullups every day will get you bigger fast if you can stay with it, and try to keep topping your previous best.

Ohsnap...I can't guarantee model status (I can only tell you how to fix the body you know lol), and it depends on whether or not you have a gym at your disposal, but I don't think anything is better than barbell benching to increase chest thickness. If you can't get to a gym, pushups are your best bet. Make sure you space your hands wide to isolate the chest muscles. If you can get to a gym, stick to free weighs instead of assisted machines, and do the exercises that use the most muscle groups first (bench before dips). Most people seem to have an easier time developing the lower part of their chest than the upper (I'm one of them), so I also do incline bench to hit the top part of the muscle (IMO, the most necessary part to fill shirts out). Additionally, I didn't have any separation, of definition between my pecs until I did flys. I think fly and cable crosses work the center part best, and give good chest separation.
Hopefully thinking about this stuff will get me off my @ss and back in the gym myself. I've lost about 15 lbs this yr. from not lifting/eating like I used to (and playing to much ball).

Thanks dtrader.
If I want to get toned should I lift lighter weights but do more reps? Whereas doing less reps on heavier weights gets you bulkier. Or should I do a combination of both?
My plan is to lift every other day and do cardio (play ball) on the days in between.
dtrader

I would never suggest anyone use ONLY high reps + low to moderate weight on EVERY exercise they do, as that could drastically limit your size gains (abbreviated explanation- weights light enough for your body to lift using only its slow twitch (smaller endurance related) muscle fibres, might not recruit (workout) the fast twitch (larger, more explosive) fibres at all, whereas heavy weights will eventually recruit all of the available muscle fibres as the load calls for them to complete the lift).
Gaining weight doesn't happen anywhere near overnight. I have yet to hear someone say that they are putting on muscle too fast. If you see yourself getting bulkier than you want, tone down the weights and increase the cardio. If you actually get to the point where that is an issue, you basically already won. What's more likely to happen with lighter weights tho, is the above example, where you don't work all of your available muscles to the fullest extent, and cheat yourself out of gains. By playing ball (an exercise for your slow twitch endurance muscles), and going heavy on lifting day, you are already essentially combining the two.
LMFAO at Ohsnap callin "no homo" on a pic with a caption reading "homorific". I def. didn't expect the visuals son. LOL

LOL. Well I don't know what your situation is now, but the guy in that pic is probly like 6'2" 160-165. I doubt he spends ANY time in the gyms free weights area. You want that, you want cardio...more cardio...some abs, and pushups. The only muscle he has is a slight amount on his chest and triceps. If you want those V shaped lines in the pelvic area, you're gonna have to work your obliques (unless you're genetically gifted). I like working them using standing weighted side bends (which is an easy one to do at home). Seriously tho...that's not a gym body. That's a naturally slim guy with very little fat. Only way to get that, is by having a naturally slender frame and continually burning off more calories than you take in.
Also...someone talked about food messing them up, cuz they had a "typical high cal. asian diet". I'm not making any claims at knowing or even being familiar with different asian cultures and their cuisine, but I went out for korean BBQ the other day, and I'd say if available, that was 1 healthy @ss meal. I didn't even know half of the vegetables I was eating, but they were all banging, not fatty or oily, and well...did I mention bangin lol?
