So u think thats wack or smart or plain stupid?
according to FADER magazine (Ghostface Killah on the cover), Bape owner Nigo paid Jay-Z $500,000 to wear Bape for the Jay-Z/Nas specials on MTV and BET. He also paid Lil Wayne $300,000 to wear it in his new video.

wouldnt doubt it... what better way to have the mass youth of the nation buy ur product than to advertise it on rappers or celebs.
thats alot of dough. Its definitely worth it when you think about the exposure Bape got from those two rappers. But the real question is how much did he pay Robin Williams and Urkel?

doesnt sound like a good idea, considering he only has ONE STORE (soon to be two) in the states. all he did was fuel a black market for it and made money for them, not him.

those number seem OD high for BAPE. They make money, but 3/4 million for those two looks? I mean lets be serious, the budget for wayne's video was prolly less then 300,000
I believe people get paid, but those numbers and those scenarios seem retarded.
Maybe what you mean is Bape paid MTV to allow the logos to be unedited, because thats something that MTV does, because if you'll notice in some videos very blatant logos aren't blanked out, and payola is the reason
^Damn, that'd make sense.

I'll wear a pleather vest with holes at the nipples for 500,000.. so why not wear something that looks decent and get paid?

the artist usually doesn't get paid to support a brand unless it's part of a campaign. he probably used that dough for clearance rights.

agreed. those #s are crazy i know all there make tons of loot but lets get serious...i dont think anyone is forking over 750 gs for 5mins of airplay. and im no nigo dick rider but why would he be paying fools to sport his shit when so many other "rappers" are buying and spitting bout bape in songs with no endorsements what so ever... hell clipse is a freaking walking bbc/ice cream ad. im sure jay and wayne get free gear but i assume the moneys goes to get the clearance to shoe the logos and i highly doubt that in itself is 3/4 million dollars

^^ yea you and jjs make good points.. mtv is way more strict with restricting logos in videos and such, much more so than BET or other channels.
i believe Hov and Lil Wayne get some kind of compensation for their BAPE/BBC/Ice Cream shit, but not half a mill's worth. still, i can and acan't knock Nigo for his descision. I can't knock him, because dude's trying to get paid. Hustle is hustle. I can knock him because he's getting paid for the price of his integrity. To me, by exposing his streetwear to kids/adults that'll buy it merely because they've seen the President of Def Jam in it ia underminding himself and the people who were buying it being they felt the style..
but hey, at the end of the day money makes the world go 'round.

Our line get stuff on Rappers, BET, and in mags all the time and all it ever costs is the price of the product we are giving away. There is always a better way, it's called " the public figures liking your line."

Jay Z defines urban streetwear more than any other artist. He has made or broke alot of brands already. 500,000 aint shit. having him wear it is priceless

I agree, he made ICEBERG hot.
seriously $500K is nothing to nigo. You guys seen his fleet of luxury automobiles. Dude has two of everything, 2 bentley, 2 lambos & etc..Plus all the cars are rolling on some dubs.

He gets stuff for free and Nigo sponsored his Japan tour. I don't think Nigo really pays anyone.
And besides, Nigo is rich, but not that rich. There's only one store in the US.

It's also a little contradictory since Nigo doesn't want everyone wearing his sh*t anyway, but he pays dudes in the limelight to wear it so that everyone will want it.

why not, lots of companies do that! Famous stars and strips (aka Travis Barker) is doing that as we speak. Check the new Outcast video. I've seen Jermaine Dupree and Paul Wall wearing his stuff like crazy. I wonder why JD stopped wearing Bape and now wears Famous..... Hmmmm?

I never heard of people payin cats to wear their clothes. You just give your stuff to the stylists and they put it on the the people for Videos, tv shows and photoshoots. If they like it they will Rock it.
I have stylists hittin me up for clothes all the time for videos and
stuff like that. I usually say no, unless its someone I think is tight.
U think LRG ever paid any of those dudes?
Most rappers and celebs are just happy to get
clothes they like for free.

but alot of times the shit is ugly and the artist refuses to wear it unless theres some major cash involved.
Do you think Lil Wayne coming from the ignorant 4x long white tee girbaud 1995 style baggy jeans liked the pink bape hoody when he saw it? hell no. He probably laugh at it.

Nigo is wealthy enough to make those kind of endorsements for sure.
On another note; Companies pay movies stars, singers, and athletes to promote anything and everything.
Mischa Barton- Keds, BCBG
Uma Thermon- LV
Jordan- Well, everyone knows this one... :)
The list goes on and on and some of these contracts make $500,000 look like chump change. This is marketing 101 and every company with the means and the money will do sponsorship, endorsements, and have spokesmodels.
To me it's nothing bad, just the way it is done.

I don't think Nigo actually paid the artist to wear his clothes, I heard Nigo say himself that he doesn't care if his clothing is embraced or not, this is just what he wants to do......Besides BAPE does'nt need any more exporsure than it already has, he would have rathered it stay in the underground market because he knows that once things become mainstream they become "played out".....I could see him paying money to MTV though, not for the fact that he wanted more exposure but just so his brand wouldn't be blurred out, and he has so much money so that was really nothing to him.

Cmon guys stop being so guilliable.
Do you realize people like Paris Hilton just attend parties every other day of the week and get paid 30,50,70 thousand per party? JUST TO ATTEND?
crazy
It does happen. And that money spent is considered an investment. The blue simple bape hoody Jay Z wore during the interview sent shockwaves throughout the hood. Almost every 14yr old wanted it from new york to california. It was the first time "regular" people were exposed to the brand.
