he's right, I mean NY times mag is pretty mainstream. At least the mainstreamplaces acknowledging streetwear are legit (NY times mag > MTV, BET, TV in general, BS, etc.).
streetwear has been mainstream since the freaking 80s.

We still have it for the time being. it's not like people can just hop up on the bandwagon.
1. Location is a factor
2.Most Pieces are not cheap.
3.Labels have no intention of going corparate.
Take stussy for example, I'm sure they've had opportunities to sell out and they keep it street.
There's no way they can make it completely mainstream, the brands won't allow it.

They sell Stussy at Macy's, and it STILL hits the sales rack all the time. Just wear what you like, that simple.

In case you guys forgot, Stussy went mainstream back in the mid 90's big time. There wasn't a kid in my high school that wasn't rockin a Stussy hat. That was the shit back then. It was definitely at the point where I thought Stussy was dead forever. But somehow they managed to revive themselves. Mad props to them for that.

But when dudes like Lupe Fiasco and Pharrel are in the spotlight then people are automatically going to want to be like them so our style will be mainstreamed and dudes who wouldn't normally dress like that will start to

i prefer to call it "beastwear"
I second that. I enjoy the brands that keep it small and street, its more exclusive and you wont be wearing the same LRG tee that everyone else has.

I admit that I used to love LRG till I seen a dude who rocked a snowman shirt just a week ago wearing it then I had to say goodbye to LRG

Just because a brand doesn't have huge inventory or make their stuff available to everyone doesn't mean it's not bordering on mainstream.
streetwear or whatever you want to call it IS part of the mainstream now, sneakers ARE more mainstream than any other part of fashion.....

Sneakers are different because everybody got to wear sneakers. Im talking about when you see a dude who has a grill and wear Girbrauds start wearing Levi's and Triumvir3 hoodies and crooks and castle t-shirts

I remember the crazy Stussy hype from those days. Mossimo tried to pop a dam obvious similarity to Stussy then also.

^ I have to agree with that dude. I mean, only rocking what the big name cats rock is just weak. I mean, if you dig it then yeah whatever, cool for you but cats who pump up the "Jay Z does it so it has to be ill" just end up sounding like they have no will.
