What I Saw Today
August 24, 2009
The Internet is it's own wide galaxy accompanied by loads upon loads of information. There are only certain sites that I feel inspire me from a fashion/style standpoint and Richard Haine's What I Saw Today is definitely among them. There are a lot of individuals that can draw amazing pictures, but only a few that can really illustrate these type of sketches. Living in New York City you see the most interesting of people, and the way they choose to express themselves. Instead of going through with the usual route of capturing pictures with a camera like many do, Richard sketches them out the way he views it. You can view the colors, shapes and aesthetics all sketched out on paper like you would if you was actually standing there. In Richard's drawings he really stresses parts of the outfit that would of caught my eye immeadiately in person. The amazing thing is that everyone can view the pictures from a different angle , taking bits and pieces of details into perspective. People often ask in interviews "Who inspires me on a daily basis?" I have to choose ordinary people who walk the street instead of notable people in the public eye. I think Richard Haines would agree with this greatly.

Recently Richard Haines and one of my favorite brands 3sixteen have partnered together on a interesting campaign creating illustrations from their Fall / Winter 2009 collection. In this video you get a rare glimpse of Richard sketching from what appeared to be a blank canvas to a full finished sketch.

yeah posted this vid a while back, got mad inspired! This guy is a genius whipping this stuff up from scratch, no prelim or W.I.P. needed! LOL!
nice post.
but how you not gonna post jimmy and joey getting sketched at the SENY party? haha
I'm very inspired by this guy since I'm walking in the same path as he has. I draw everywhere - almost compulsively lol. I wish some day i'll be able to draw and won't have to do anything else. I'm glad you provided a link to his site, this was a very helpful post to me.
thanks joshua and travis for putting this together-i'm honored! really love reading the commments too. loved sketching jimmy and joey-there was a lot to see at the SENY party.
