With pride and by default i am a proud northerner from Newcastle. As A kid growing up in my town logos weren't important - THEY WERE EVERYTHING - what you wore defined so much about you it was painful, VERY painful if someone A - liked what you wore and kicked the shit out of you then took it (i believe this was referred to as being TAXED) and B - you were wearing something that defined you as the polar opposite 'tribe' to the 6 lads you just bumped into, ironically alone on a bus home (blood spilt hospital at night cast set school on monday) northern life in the 80's / early 90's - THANK CHRIST FOR RAVE CULTURE. So without wittering on about the pantheons of youth and the lexicons of subcultural existence i shall move swiftly on to the pictures / LOGOS that WE WORE BACK THEN - This to me then was fashion this was what you worked as a potman and a saturday boy for - WORKING was CLASS

Recently one of Canada's most promising yet under-hyped designers Hiroshi Awai presented his Creep autumn/winter 12 collection to a frankly 'switched on' crowd of retailers, press, and friends at mens contemporary lifestyle store Jonathan+Olivia.
The store curated by my good friends Jackie and Nic Jones is a perfect canvas on which to paint your name should you be a new designer. J+O thrive on manifesting friendships with the up and coming thru their ability to recognise talent, yet they also nurture kinship relations with some of the worlds most revered brands - THEY HAVE SKILLS.
The backdrop to the presentation heavy in its inspiration from alpine pursuits and activities was entitled Mountain of Storms, which documents the expeditions that inspired adventurists Yvon Chouinard to start the outerwear brand Patagonia and Doug Tompkins The North Face along with an eclectic choice of tracks from the Durruti Column.
Avante-garde and launched by Canada's Avant guardians Nic n Jackie ... I expect BIG things for Hiroshi Awai and in September 12 i reckon the Canadians are gonna need his layered up AW12 garb.

In a world full of brands destined to bump into each-other ape concepts and mix in certain circles - maybe some more concentric than others i feel CREEP and Mr Awai by their very nature don't necessarily belong and i dont think they want to i feel they will be passing by twice a year with all the right moves and kit to be caboodled in - i salute this brand - the best of luck to ya Hiroshi !!

I remember this like it was yesterday - the strip - the team - Bobby Robson the worlds greatest ever manager, instructing my heroes and the people i wanted to be at 16 with candour and grace (i also wanted to be Bernard Sumner) but if i could have had the footballing talent of Peter Beardsley i would have been happy enough ...
The video here is directed by an OLD friend Ewen Spencer SPANNER from my hometown of Newcastle - a style icon in his own right back in the day with his Paninari infused day to day outfits - it seems so FUCKING BRILLIANTLY appropriate that he would shoot this video - BIG respect to Stephen Mann too for the SPOT ON styling.
