contest
December 24, 2009
They had the HIO surf contest today on the north shore, this year being its 40th year. The HIO is a grass roots contest ran by the people who hang out at Haleiwa beach.

Haleiwa is a special place for alot of people , its more of a society in its self. the same people surf the same spot every day. the same people that dont even surf come by to hang out.

such a great feeling of community. got to congratulate the community of Haleiwa for a great 40 years of this surf contest. the waves were huge today

(our boy Nick Mita shot this one)
with the ocean just throwing itself up onto the reef here. the current was moving at a good 10 miles per hour.

it was a battle today , not against the other competitors but the ocean itself. this was the first contest i have surfed in along long time. and it showed. i pretty much got blown to bits and eventually lost in my 2nd heat. guess next year. again congrats to everyone involved!

Art donated by the amazing Clark Takashima , a great artist and an overall good guy.
hey Jun,
i love your blog here. i love in4mation too. i loved your last picture for your hypebeast blog. but something about this eye photo makes me not click on your blog to read your posts as much. i know that might sound strange but there's something intimidating about it.(don't laugh at me.) something a wee bit off putting, you know?(ok now you can laugh!)
thanks for the feedback Jennie, to be honest it is alittle creeeepy . i am kinda new to this whole thing so its good to hear what people like. gonna find something nice to put up asap!
Jun Jo,
This is why you seem to me to be so interesting. I can hear your voice when you write. PLUS you listen!!!! You floored me. Thank you. That photo of you on the wave makes me say 'WOW' each time i see it. You're amazing. Don't ever change. You can get better that's always good. But don't you change!!!!
ahhhh thanks so much. it makes all this blogging stuff all good!
