TRAVEL: GIS US A DART WILL YA?
April 28, 2011
Melbourne, Australia.
Flew into the 'burn city yesterday in preparation for the inaugural Carbon event this weekend. It's been a while since I've been back here, and thankfully the weather's a lot nicer this time around. First stop: the Acclaim Magazine office to sit in on the final planning meeting. You know, sometimes I really forget how different Australians are compared to the folks back home. Not in a bad way, just that I thought I had Aussie lingo down, but I was quickly reminded that I was nowhere close. "Got a lil f*ckeyed love, gis us a spare dart?"
That's darty-as.
Here's a quick recap of Day #1.
Event Director Andrew Montell.
Picked up Frank Bobby, one of Carbon's headlining keynote speakers the following morning. Here's you, reading about Bobby, reading about me in Acclaim. I hope that makes sense.
Lunch at Brunswick Street, the semi-partly-gentrified alternative district of Melbourne. Some great little boutiques, like the guys at The Lab/Mr. Simple - 254 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.
The obligatory visit for all people visiting Melbourne - the SNKR.FRKR world headquarters.
Woody unfortunately wasn't in when we popped through, but here's a very realistic photograph of him.
Outback Redneck?
The first event of the weekend - the NB574.com "Journeys" exhibition, featuring a series of photographic works by Josh Robenstone. The show focuses on the lives and works of six creative individuals throughout Australia, through Josh's lenses.
Great show Josh. Pleasure to meet you too.
Another day awaits.
Yezzir, The Lab is a mint spot, favorite from my last trip over yonder for sure.
