HANUMAN WINDSON.
December 14, 2009

My friend Nat Sarasas (Bangkok Dangerous!) recently designed the first ever G-Shock watch for Thailand for the Bangkok leg of the 2009 global G-shock "Shock The World" campaign. For the special run of 100 watches he chose the G5600A model, which he premiered at a huge launch party in Demo Thonglor last Wednesday.

Named "Mr. Windson", the overall theme of the watch was inspired by Thai folk legend hero Hanuman, Son of the Wind. Hanuman is the central character in the epic Ramayana/Ramakien who leads a symbian army (a lot of Bathing Apes?) to fight the an evil demon king to return Sita to Rama amongst a whole bunch of other presumably cool feats. You'll see his likeliness and the "six faces of Hanuman" everywhere in Thailand, adorning temples, street corners, traditional plays and such. The box features a monogram pattern of a short diamond trident, Hanuman's famed weapon of choice.

Every aspect of the watch is linked to Hanuman's legend - from the traditional Thai symbols, the pattern of his skin, the stars that he 'yawns' in the traditional Thai national colours, to his gold bracelet (watch clasp). All in all, a nicely designed product with some unique, yet not overally blasé cultural references.

From what I gather, only 100 pieces were produced in this limited run, and you can only obtain one by purchasing over 15000 baht (about 450USD), at G-Factory Siam Center & G-Factory Central World starting from tomorrow (Dec 15th).

Thanks JEED for the pictures.

Congratulations Nat on a project well executed! Hope to see you soon. Bottle of whisky and all.
