Big K.R.I.T. Wuz Here
May 10, 2010

The internet is making me hate music.
Due to the nature of the occupation, working with musicians, working with Creative Control and curating the 10. Deep new artist Mixtape series (Wale, Kid Cudi, Donnis) my inbox is now a deluge of mixtapes, beats, freestyles, violin concertos, dance recitals and tambourine solos.
A good percentage of my email usage consists of me freeing up my inbox space from numerous future "next best thing"s seemingly oblivious of the fact that the success rate of rappers getting signed via blind emailing is 0% (if theres a percentage less than 0 it belongs to rappers who send mixtape links via twitter).
This is not a dissertation on how to broadcast your talents to the music community without annoying its aggregators and actually making an impact (thats whole other conversation, one that i actually get paid for), This is actually the celebration of a new artist that i have come across that i actually like (anyone that knows me knows this is as likely as Laurence Taylor getting hired as a high school guidance counselor) Big K.R.I.T.
I've expended copious amounts of energy ignoring KRIT's music. My boys Steve-O and Saint of GFC had been telling me for some time that they were working with a new southern artist that would change music as we know it. My pessimistic side took that as change for the the worse and i passed on it like getting offered a blunt in a crackhouse.
Coodie and Chike at Creative Control hit me about a new artist that they were shooting vids for. They expressed that i should jump on the bandwagon quickly as this kid was the truth. I peeped the video for "King"
I thought the song was dope but still I resolved to jog behind the bandwagon at a slow trot, limply raising my hand to flag down the driver with no real intent on getting on.
Then in the midst of a meeting with some execs, Coodie and Chike, running down some of the projects that they were working on ended up cycling through Big KRIT songs for the potential clients like proud fathers rifling through baby pictures. I happened to be in earshot as the two talked their way through the mixtape like directors commentary on the DVD extras menu. In that setting i heard enough gems for me to actually go through the strenuous process of clicking the download link on the zshare.
One listen to "Something" and he had a new fan
His music is the answer to the question "what would happen if Pimp C was the third member of Outkast?" and throws out the question of lyrical talent and proficiency behind the boards being based on region. The kids goes from "Hustle and Flow" to "Def Poetry Jam" in 0 to 60 without making it seem contrived. He details the human experience without the use of absolutes, sometimes we think deeply, sometimes we dont want to think at all, its the multiple dimensions that make us who we are.
Big K.R.I.T. Wuz Here is one of the fore runners for my mixtape album of the year.
give it a download here and let me know what you think of it.
Im going to get back to deleting Rap Spam out of my inbox
"His music is the answer to the question “what would happen if Pimp C was the third member of Outkast?”"
Exactly what I felt when I listened to this for the first time.
