What it’s like out in Johannesburg South Africa….
September 1, 2010
Finally, a spare moment to reminisce.
I already told you guys a while back how it was out in Cape Town.
I did get to do a bit of site seeing but NOT too much, as I was on the move and on the clock... I wasn't there vacationing, but out their for adidas.
SOOO, unfortunately, I did NOT get to actually see any games
. All the games that were going on while I was there, I was djing AND/OR in the midst of travelling .
I DID get to pass by one of the "Fan Fests" in cape town, a spot where they set up a big screen for all those who couldn't be at the games because it was in another town in south africa, or they couldn't get a ticket into the stadium.
After literally 24 hours in Cape Town, on July 3rd I had to head out to the Next town of Jo-Burg aka Johannesburg.
Now, if Cape Town is Miami, Johannesburg I guess, would be New York. Its the financial hub I believe of the whole country, so not much to do as far as site seeing...
BUT, when it came to music... well - It was like NYC in 1998 .
EVERYONE is stuck in a crazy time warp. They wanted gully wu-tang, not Gucci Mane. Liquid Swords, not "Get wasted" . Very serious about this. If any of y'all get a chance to dj out there , I can almost promise you, that you will get more of a reaction to Mobb Deep shook ones, then Lil Wayne Mrs Officer. And I'm talking about the GUYS AND the GIRLS.
The night I did in JoBurg had a LOOOT of promo behind it.
From full on street promotions, to getting on one of their TV shows a few hours before the show.
I did my thing for Adidas at this Old Theatre Called the ALEX .
There were at least 5 different rooms - Electro, funk, Hip Hop, House etc etc... and the spot held about 3000 . The party went until the Weee Hours of the morn, and was packed to the brim with JoBurgs best...
Unfortunately, My trip was QUICK. I was only out in South Africa for a total of 3 days, including travel time.
I did get to check some local food - Had some Springbok - an animal you will probably only get to eat out in africa -
and I got to see a little festival where Ghana was getting their props for representing the continent -
And, I got to take in a couple of sites before I headed back to the Americas -
ANND of course, I got a lot of football swag
Definitely an experience I won't forget anytime soon... and If the booking gods show their favor on me, I'll be back out to rock for that side of the world sooner then later...
