Santa Monica, Danny Trejo and a big ass knife – The MACHETE Screening…
August 28, 2010

Ahhh L.A. Somehow you have become my 2nd home.

I am partial to Santa Monica... again a confirmation that if I grew up on the west coast instead of NYC I would have been a surfer, trying to be like Hosoi, but on a bmx bike.

This trip around, I got to do somethin extra cool, as I was present and accounted for at the Screening of MACHETE, Robert Rodriguez' latest...

This film was born out of the previous Tarintino/Rodriguez project Grindhouse as a "faux trailer", a movie within the movie that was supposed to be coming out.

You can peep the trailer here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRPEquQH_pc

Emily was working the event for S.A. Studios and I got to tag along and check out the whole spectacle - complete with a low rider procession, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez ...

SO the big question is ... How was the Movie?? ....

I'm not sure if y'all have had the opportunity to see a flick in this environment - with the directors, actors and SUPER fans present in the same room - but it is an experience, and definitely lends to the enjoyment of the film.

If you are a fan of the exploitation B movie grindhouse type flicks, of Tarintino's work, of Robert Rodriguez's Dusk Til Dawn etc etc, you'll love this.

This viewing was a ROOM full of folk that were fans - that get all the inside jokes, the satire and the humor and the gore, the fly latina girls with guns, etc etc... So the movie in this setting was great for most - two thumbs up, fun family time for everyone.

I'll definitely watch it again with a normal movie audience to see how different it is in a more "un-controlled" setting. Plus, I like those type of flicks.

So this one gets my recommendation. It had serious social commentary told thru the mind of Robert Rodriguez as an exploitation B Movie.

The last one like this grindhouse, it couldn't get enough of an audience... it was too long, it was too much of the craziness of Tarintino and Rodriguez to take in one sitting etc etc...

Machete gets it right for the masses.
