Cristiano Ronaldo Sets All-Time Record for Most Goals Scored in European Championship History
Another day, another record for the GOAT.
In Portugal‘s recent match against Hungary, Cristiano Ronaldo broke yet another record, becoming the all-time leading men’s goalscorer at the UEFA‘s European Championship.
Just as the clock was running out, the Portuguese forward scored two late goals to beat Hungary 3-0 in the Euro 2020 match. At the 87th minute, Ronaldo scored a penalty and later a close-range strike two minutes into stoppage time. The 36-year-old’s goals brought his record to 11, two more than the former France captain Michel Platini. With the goals, Ronaldo is now only three international goals away from tying Ali Daei, Iran’s striker for the all-time men’s international scoring record at 109 goals. He is expected to have the opportunity to eclipse Daei before the end of Euro 2020 to place himself ahead of all other players in men’s international scoring.
In addition to the aforementioned record, Ronaldo also broke another record during Portugal’s match against Hungary, becoming the first men’s player to ever play in five different Euros. Ronaldo is set to appear in the next two games, which sees Portugal face off against Germany and France. Throughout his career, Ronaldo has been unable to score on either of the teams in the 10 games he has played against Germany and France.
It remains to be seen what other records Ronaldo will break throughout the course of Euros 2020.
First player to play in 5 Euros.
First player to score in 5 Euros.
Only 3 goals behind Ali Daei’s record for all-time international goal scorer.
