Ben Mendelsohn Tries to Solve an Unexplainable Case in New 'The Outsider' Trailer
The latest Stephen King novel to be brought to life.
Stephen King‘s horror novel The Outsider is the latest project to the get the Hollywood treatment, this time being backed by HBO.
After receiving a teaser in mid-October, the premium network has just shared a full-length trailer for the forthcoming series starring Jason Bateman and Ben Mendelsohn. Giving of major True Detective vibes, the limited-series centers around Bateman’s character, who is a prime suspect in the murder of an 11-year-old boy, while Mendelsohn is the detective assigned to the case.
The footage begins with Bateman being arrested for the crime as authorities discover the mutilated corpse of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson in the woods of Georgia. What makes the case even more baffling is the conflicting evidence against Terry, suggesting he was in two places at once. “His prints are all over the crime scene, the TV footage puts him 60 miles away,” Mendelsohn’s detective Ralph Anderson can be heard saying. Although the case appears simple at first, the show’s trailer suggests that events soon take a more sinister — perhaps even supernatural — turn.
Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, and Yul Vázquez round out the cast of the series, while acclaimed crime author Richard Price helped to adapt King’s novel to the small screen.
The Outsider premieres Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with two hourlong episodes airing back to back.
