Back in April, GoPro introduced Omni: its own 360-degree video rig and one intended as a less cost-prohibitive alternative to its $15,000 USD Odyssey. Though pricing and availability were unknown at the time, GoPro has finally returned to shed some additional info on the setup after whetting appetites with some amazing Omni footage in May.

So how much will the rig set you back and when can you get your hands on it? Due out next week, the Omni is slated to retail for $4,999 USD — significantly less than the Odyssey’s aforementioned MSRP and not a bad proposition considering it includes six HERO4 Black cameras, pixel-level synchronization, 8K video capture, and Kolor’s 360-degree stitching and publishing suite. Perhaps best of all, if you already happen to have six HERO4 Blacks, GoPro will sell you the rig for just $1,499 USD — all you have to do is download a special VR firmware update for the cameras.

The Omni can be pre-ordered online now directly from GoPro while availability is currently on track for August 17.
