ScHoolboy Q's 'Blank Face LP' Was Almost a "Depressed Rap" Therapy Session

As fans begin to finally listen to and digest ScHoolboy Q‘s latest studio album Blank Face LP, Q is taking to interviews to explain more about the project and pull back the curtain on its process. In a new exchange with Rolling Stone, Q has revealed that the final product could have been much different. Upset over the lack of time with his daughter, Q initially began crafting something that he described as “depressed rap.” However, before those sounds could make it to the final cut, the “Groovy Tony” rapper did a complete 180. “I switched the whole album up as I got into myself and I got comfortable again,” he says, unhappy with the tone of those recordings. “I told myself, stop crying like a little bitch and do what you love to do.” Scraping the original Blank Face sessions, Q decided to just lock those songs away for his own personal listening. As far as how those records actually sounded, Q says:

“It was like a confession thing…I didn’t want people to hear me like that. That depression doesn’t last. A few months, and then it was over.”
