Kanye West's First-Ever Beat Tape Surfaces
Taking it back to September of 1997.
Tons of old Kanye beats have surfaced over the years, but this latest leak is undoubtedly one of the most noteworthy yet: it’s being billed as ‘Yeezy’s first-ever beat tape.’ Given that the eight beats are supposedly from 1997, it seems unlikely that the tape is actually ‘Ye’s very first — he produced eight tracks on Chicago rapper Grav’s 1996 release Down to Earth and probably made tapes before that. Nonetheless, the sounds are definitely worth a spin as the tape represents some of West’s earliest work and predates the likes of his Go-Getters contributions (not to mention his work for Jay Z and Roc-A-Fella) by a few years.
Unmistakably Kanye’s, the old ’90s beats can be streamed above.
