Nissan Unveils the 2017 GT-R

Restyled and even more powerful than its predecessor.

Since its introduction back in 2007, the GT-R (the successor of sorts to the beloved Nissan Skyline GT-R) has become maybe the most universally renowned vehicle on the market thanks to its relatively low sticker price, badass looks, and unparalleled (at the price) combination of handling and power — they don’t call the thing “Godzilla” for nothing. Next year marks the GT-R’s 10-year anniversary and, to celebrate, Nissan has made the car sleeker and more powerful than ever before.

Unveiled at this year’s New York Auto Show, the 2017 edition of the GT-R stays true to the looks of past workhorses, but now employs tweaks to the likes of the spoiler and bumpers while wider side sills and a larger take on the ubiquitous V-Motion grille offer better airflow and improved cooling for the engine. A 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 remains under the hood, but now offers 20 more horsepower (565 compare to 545 hp) over its predecessor and 467 pound-feet of torque thanks, in part, to boosted turbos and individual ignition-timing control for each of the six cylinders. The six-speed dual-clutch gearbox has also been tweaked for less noise and smoother shifts while titanium exhaust and Active Sound Enhancement mean the GT-R not only performs better than ever before, but sounds even better, too. Finally, an acoustic glass windshield, new sound insulation and Active Noise Cancellation make for a quieter cabin while other interior improvements include paddle shifters, new seats, Nappa leather upholstery, updated navigation and infotainment systems, and an 8-inch touch panel monitor.

Nissan’s 2017 rendition of the GT-R will hit dealers in the latter part of the year for around $100,000 USD.
